eh, I guess it's a little better but the whole site's UI still feels unnecessarily large and requires more effort to navigate imo. one of my favorite things about this site was the library view where you were able to see the artists on multiple rows and easily switch pages to load the next screen of artists. now it's just one clumsy long list and you can't even alphabetize it. I'm sure it's one of those things that you just inevitably get used to, but I'm nowhere near comfortable with it yet.

I do enjoy the new tame impala quite a bit as well, definitely happy to hear them switching up their sound in a much more noticeable way -- the jump from innerspeaker to lonerism was much more subtle. in general though, I've really struggled to keep up with this year's music. haha no fortunately I'm getting real experience as a software developer. I can't imagine doing menial tasks all summer for an internship and putting that on my resume as "experience". yeah I've actually toned back drinking quite a bit compared to my earlier college days, so turning 21 was somewhat anticlimactic but it's still nice to not have to worry about it now. sorry to hear about your operation, but indulging in your hobbies is a great way to spend your time off anyway. working every day has made me appreciate the time that I get to spend with my hobbies (which is basically just the weekends) that much more.

I've been really great actually; started that internship I told you about awhile back and I've just been enjoying my summer. turned 21 (legal drinking age here) a couple weeks ago so that's also been nice going to happy hours and whatnot. what about you? part of me thinks being completely disconnected from that kinda stuff would be great but I also love reading about what people have to say about something I've watched/played/listened to after. I think a healthy balance between consuming and browsing is perfectly fine; it's just hard to find that balance. you'll find someone man. I guess now's the time to do it while you're in university and can easily meet people, but there's always time. I kinda wish I had watched the movies for gundam instead but I'm still enjoying it enough so I'll just stick with it lol. ahhh that's a shame... or a good thing I guess? anime adaptations are usually two or three steps down from the source material so at least it did it justice somewhat.

no I totally agree with you about that scene. that show suffers from extremely awkward execution and questionable direction occasionally that really detract from what I think is a rather compelling commentary on what it means to be human and how inherently hypocritical we are towards things that we see as monstrous and selfish. I'm not going to forgive cringeworthy moments like that (or half of the dubstep/trap-infused soundtrack) but I thought it was still compelling in a much more intelligent way than I originally thought it would be. I see on your manga list that you've read it as well. do you think it's worth going back and checking that out?

I feel that; there are some days where I can easily waste 4 hours just browsing the internet and not even realize it until later. good to see you're cognizant of that because I feel like I can forget how wasteful it is a lot of the time. my real life is all sorts of blah right now lol. just ready for school to be over. in terms of anime, not watching a whole lot this season like usual, but what I am watching I'm at least enjoying to some degree. my favorites are probably Ore Monogatari and Kekkai Sensen. I honestly wasn't expecting that much from either, especially OreMono since, like I told you earlier, shoujo is so uninspired and derivative now. I'm also watching the original Gundam on the side as well. the story and characters are good -- nothing to write home about though. but the animation... I mean I understand it was 1979 when it was made but even with that context the quality is just comical at times.

I've noticed that, more than any other album, I get irrationally baffled by people who don't think so too haha. I'm just glad it could reach him. it really is a fantastic and beautifully mixed collection of songs. speaking of anime (I would ask you on MAL but since I have you here), are you looking forward to anything in particular from the upcoming season? winter's historically bland, and this season seems to be no exception. hoping to be surprised by a few though. yuri kuma arashi (ikuhara hyyyyyype), death parade (same dude who did the best anime mirai short of 2012, seems to be the same premise/vibe for this series), and durarara (even though I've almost completely forgotten the first season) should all be awesome.

oh it's a summer internship for the software consulting (i.e. software developing for clients) firm that I currently work at part-time during the school year. so basically I'm just getting a promotion which entails better pay and more responsibilities. man, I completely forgot about her album from this year. it's still pretty good, but strange mercy and (especially) actor just blow it out of the water in comparison. this tabu ley stuff is great; I'll definitely be saving it for next summer. you're actually right - I don't listen to metal very often. but I do tend to prefer it more around this time of year when it starts to get cold. that behemoth album from this year is probably one of my favs. oooo yeah clean vocals can go either way for me, I'm more optimistic though after seeing all the praise it got.

So many people have recommended Mushishi to me :D Maybe it is time I started it already.. I don't know why but for me it is somewhat difficult to finish long series. Everyone kept talking about Breaking bad so just some weeks ago I started watching it. I think it's good but I just can't see all the hype. But Mushishi seems to be something I could really enjoy. Gonna watch it, promise!

Yes, I've traveled there few times, for vacation, backpacking and meeting people. I really like the country and enjoy my time there, guess that's why I always end up there - this year already went twice :P Probably should visit other countries as well, I've mostly traveled in Europe with only few other exceptions. I'd love to see New Zealand, Venice and Iceland someday. Btw, do you know anime series "Natsume Yuujinchou"? It is about this student who can see youkai and other spirit. I love that show and it has a pretty nice soundtrack as well! I don't watch that much any kind of tv-series but this one I keep recommending to people. I have an obsession with Japanese spirits and folk stories and it has plenty of them.

Have you been to Japan? Australia is somewhat close, at least closer than Finland. I assume you know about Ghibli museum..? I've been in the museum twice, it is such a magical place. There is even a small movie theater where they show short films only meant to be shown in that theater! Very inspiring place. And about Arriety, you should definitely see it. How I see Ghibli's reasons for quitting it is because the two masters are already getting old and there might not be anyone to step into their shoes. And if someone from current Ghibli team could really become "the new master" then they should just make their own studio, right?

No problem, it is usual in last.fm :) Yeah, Spirited away is my favorite movie too (along with few others). My guess is you like other Ghibli movies as well? Most of them have amazing soundtracks, one of the best ones is done by Cécile Corbel for Arrietty. Did you hear that Ghibli quit/went for a long break? I saw their final movie called "Omoide no Marnie" last summer. I liked it, but felt that it was maybe bit more towards female audience. Toru Takemitsu has an amazing career, I knew him from movie soundtracks but just recently started to listen to him.

oh, and wanted to ask are you familiar with Toru Takemitsu? He's pretty talented, you should check his music out. Try finding a song named 燃える秋 (Moeru aki). There is a vocal version too. Sorry if you already know him :P

yessss, bill evans is my favorite jazz pianist. the album Mingus Ah Um is godlike, so go check that out if you haven't already. let's see: andrew hill is pretty great, probably second to bill in terms of pianists, but hill's style is completely different from that of bill evans. sonny rollins and ornette coleman are pretty ballin saxophonists. the thing I love about jazz is that it's all so good. hardly any misses from the stuff I've listened to. let me know if you need specific album recs. word, I'll check her out. I only see one album on jpopsuki, should I just go for that one?

It's actually pretty funny because I watched Blair Witch on Friday night lol. I'd actually think you'd handle it well; it works mostly through suggestion since it's a first-person found footage movie. No music or sudden cuts to employ cheap jump scares. Anyway yeah I did! Basically lived up to exactly what I expected from it. Certainly one of those most impressive feats in cinematography/editing for the time. I agree, the deterioration of Kane emotionally was one of the most fascinating story elements I've seen in quite awhile. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 was the lack of connection after watching it. I thought about the whole thing for a bit but it didn't stick with me like I thought it would. Objectively it's probably near perfect though.

Aw man, I think Blair Witch Project is one of the first horror movies that I genuinely appreciated once I started taking movies seriously. I always wonder if it still holds up today. Sounds amazing, and my film professor has delved into a rather lengthy (and tangent) discussion about it so I can already appreciate it even in today's context haha. Sorry I haven't been able to catch up with it yet, I'll try to tomorrow morning and let you know my thoughts!

Oh I don't want to make it seem like I hate EVERYONE in my department, it's just usually a tossup. Most of my closer friends are in other majors. Glad you can connect so easily with people in your classes though. Hmmmm, well out of the ones we've watched thus far I can easily recommend The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Peeping Tom, The Black Cat, and The Exorcist. Halloween is my personal all-time favorite. We're exploring horror in chronological order of release date, so those are all pretty old but still great nonetheless. Yeah we do the same, I WISH we could watch the full films shown in the clips but gah time. Oh cool, I've never seen it despite it being one of the most universally loved movies of all time lol. I'll see if I can find the time for it later this week.
