Well, i'm from Argentina, so the lyrics are not a big problem to me at all (i'd like to avoid any possible comments about football matches between Argentina - Alemania, because the last World Cup final still puts me VERRRRRRRY sad hahahaha). To me those three bands are like the greatest thing in that genre. Of course there are a lot more, but nowadays it's mixed with another genres, like Agalloch (with black/extreme metal), or Swans (experimental/noise), or maybe Death in June (though i didn't listen them yet lol). Every band with David Crosby in it is another example of great folk music (to me he was very very dark/mysterious in his golden years: try the songs Guinnevere, Triad or Lee Shore, they are incredible! You've got Neil Young and Stephen Stills too, that worked with Crosby. They have their songs too (Don't Let it Bring you Down and 4 + 20, respectively).

Contemporary Classical is definitely the most esoteric music genre ever imo. In fact, I think those bands have more in common with Classical music than any other genre (especially Kayo Dot, of course).

Dunno, found it kinda average, just cool but not as awesome as Kayo Dot used to be. I think the whole sounds a bit watered down for a KD release but maybe it'll grow on me later... First track is absolute perfection (probably the best on the album), track 2 is fresh (reminds me of [url=http://giggle-the-ozone.bandcamp.com/track/current-2]Giggle the Ozone[/url]), track 3 is terrible (BUT there is something weird about the main riff that I need to clarify, I have the feeling I already heard it on another Toby composition, the EXACT SAME riff), track 4 is really cool, track 5 and final track are interesting (even though Toby's singing on final track sounds a bit cringeworthy).. As far as I remember I hated Gamma Knife the first time I heard it, and now it's one of my favorite releases ever so yeah, time will tell...

But personally I wasn't really into Metal before discovering Kayo Dot + maudlin of the Well. Tbh at the time I thought it to be a shitgenre I wasn't really fond of the growls and agressivity. Right after I got into motW I searched for Avant-garde Metal bands that could probably sound the same, and of course my disappointment was strong since there wasn't any..but in the process I learnt to appreciate the genre throwing away my prejudices little by little. My Internet connection was shit so I couldn't dwnld many of their stuff but I remember that time when I saw the Blue Lambency Downard cover art, I just thought it looked inspiring and different so I searched for some 320 rip on the Internet. I didn't really understand the music at the time but I thought it to be...well, different. Right after I got intrigued by the Choirs Of the Eye cover art so I gave it a try too. I was a strong Radiohead fan at the time (I used to believe this band to be the best band of all time and have been listening to OK Computer 24/7 for months), but when I listened to Choirs Of the Eye enough to enter into its atmospheres, all my musical world has been turned upside down since and I looked for more and more experimental music of the same type.

I met him before the SC3 concert in Paris. I asked him about the eventuality of a Kayo Dot concert in Paris and I took a picture with him. He seems to be a pretty cool guy. He looked kinda surprised by my enthousiasm for his music and thanked me for listening.

…Zardoz is another good one. It's mostly famous for having Sean Connery in a horrifying costume, but it has a heavy psychedelic tone and is really entertaining in its low-budget way. Their connection to The Holy Mountain is strained, but I think if you like Holy Mountain you should like David Cronenberg's stranger efforts, namely Videodrome, eXistenZ, and Naked Lunch. They can be psychedelic (in a morbid, bad trip way) and have a freedom to spin into some weird territory that many movies wouldn't. Alright, that's all I got.

You have embarked on a difficult quest…The Holy Mountain's really on its own. Have you seen Jodorowsky's other movies? They're not quite at the level of Holy Mountain, but they're way closer than anything else. Jodorowsky has a new movie that just came out recently (like past week recently), but it's not playing anywhere close to where I live. Have you seen Holy Motors? It doesn't have the psychedelic and religious stuff that Holy Mountain did, but it freely goes into unpredictable batshit surreal places like Holy Mountain did (and both their titles start with "Holy Mo-", amazing!). Although I didn't care for the series, the movie that concluded Neon Genesis Evangelion (The End of Evangelion) had a lot of Holy Mountain-worty imagery. It's worth finding the last 30 minutes on YouTube if you don't want to sit through the show. Running out of characters…
