Yea, the results of these 3 choices are basially the same. Another option is stop listeing to them. Indeed, the line between lying and imagination is really thin. That's way one person will be offended by such an artist and another wont. In case of my taste such criminal lines depens of the artists' attitude to themselves. That's way i mentioned Geto Boys (as an example) - they are distanced to their gangsta lyrics so i really enjoy listening to thier fucked up stories:D But when an artist is pretending to be somebody who he/she is not in real and cheat his fans (especiall those who are naive) i dont buy it.

I wouldnt listen to Elvis cause i dont like him also from the musical point of view. But whatever, i know what you mean. Yea, Trane was a heroin addict for some time, Miles was an adulterer, Monk was probably mentally sick and Bird was a worse asshole than all of them. But i still love their music and despite of their flaws i also admire personalities of all of them. They were very special people not only because of the music. Such flaws arent obctacles to be a real and honest artist. But lying, stealing somebody's music or being just duplicate is a totally another thing. I dont mean Fat Joe last album now simply because i havent heard it.

I mentioned the wack mc's in the 90's just to explain my theory that when you're anti-wack-mcs pitched because of your favorite records but you don't really check out much wack mc's, you become more critical to what you hear. Clearly psychologically, just to fill with something your idea about tons of wack mc's since you don't really know many of this type. This "critical listening" is connected with my opinion about the Fat Joe album. And with the situation with the competition in the 90's I tried to explain why I see this "critical listening" as a very good thing by underlining the huge difference between the attitude of the fans now and before, without pretending to have painted only with one factor a big picture of the industry and the blowing up.

Well, I'm not down with your point of view then. If good rap is music that comes from the heart and soul, then sayin sumfin that's not real can't be good rap. It's a lie. If it was possible that Rae was a rich dude when he wrote OBFCL, then probably I would stop listenin to it. Dunno. The thing is that I think this can be easily recognized even if it's not the Fat Joe case. What's fake is fake. As far as it goes to the Rae line u quoted - yeah, bling is mentioned not only once in OBFCL(which is far from my favorite albums but yeah, Heaven & Hell is a song I love). But the thing is that I feel Rae but I don't feel Fat Joe. Why? Cause I'm prejudiced and cause I know Fat Joe's rich now or cause Rae is just doper than Joe? There's a third reason also, think about it.

Let's say that I barely like rap about "running the streets" if his raps are that. Also let's say that rapping about running the streets has nothing to do with skill, two different things basically. And I can't understand you feeling him rapping about running the streets when it's clear that he's not there. Main topic of his first two albums is the fact that he's on the streets while "others" only talk that shit. Him before dissing himself now, isn't it? That's a gimmick. Last but not least, rapping about running the streets but mentioning the stuff on your wrists and neck(two or three times), now that's a gimmick.

I think there's enough such in my charts. This album's just wack. Fat Joe's boring, materialistic and still that bad gangsta poppin glocks round da street... meanwhile writing that in the four-floored crib. But that's funny, it's the smaller tragedy. The guest appearances which are in nearly all the songs vary from utterly and awfully wack to unlistenable and unbearable. Production's overall very good.

Like Fat Joe's 93 song, you be out yo mind, to think that his new album is somewhere near to average. Also fuck Premier for makin a beat for such an album.

Well, it's my before last year at school, nothing really new, sports, literature and good music as usually. 6 months sounds like a lot of work, I wish you good luck and success with it then. Out of this year's albums I discovered some other new school jems I've been sleeping on like that Kollabo Brothers album(For My Peoples, you should check that out someday) or Shad, what a great mc! I filled some misses in the older classic stuff, you can see the many Public Enemy or De La plays(I wasn't really familiar with them beforehand, only greatest hits compilations is what I knew). PE made the best show I ever attended some time ago.

Well, I think no matter how traditional or abstract you think you are, one of the mc's you consider to be in the best top four ever told a simple instruction how a verse should be written. The flow is there, agree, the wordplay is playing with senseless words. I don't dig the 90's cats that are talkin nowadays only how good the 90's were through the whole damn album either, so I guess to each his own is a good conclusion.

And this means absolutely no disrespect and that's why I wrote I can't even believe this shit.

After 12 tracks of very careful listening(couldn't stand more than 12) I came to the conclusion that - even if I omit the fact the I absolutely hate every single beat cause beats is a matter of taste(fact) - (1)I didn't heard even ONE good verse with common sense and (2)that nobody except a Drake fan, a Lil John fan, a Speakerbox fan, a psychedelic trance fan on heavy drugs OR you could like a single verse out of the whole "masterpiece and new school classic" album.

Bird was recording mostly before longplay era so there are only few full albums by him or where he played as a sideman (Collector's Items by Miles for example). So you should better check classic Bird's recordings which were put on many compilation albums. For the beginning the best and the most important from his whole career are master takes from labels Savoy, Dial and Verve (there are also tons of alternative takes but it could flood you so it's better to check only masters). Nothing really interesting, nuffin but sports and music to keep me going. Lately there's total lack of rap gigs here, however I attended some awesome non-Hip-Hop concerts. yeah i get what you mean, i only do that when the album isn't far off being released though, and the tracks still give you the wu feeling but it's not as good as the old material, there's a 'criminology 2.5' which is good compared to most the 2010 tracks from other artists but isnt as good as the original criminology

Blue Train is a magnificent album:) I dont want to flood you with too many recommendations so maybe 2 by now. One is a well-known mainstream classic (Cannonball Adderley - Somethin' Else) and another is a vanguard jazz cornerstone (Alice Coltrane - Ptah, The El Daoud).
