I'm really enjoying Zammuto. The Books were great, and they will be missed, but it was really a completely different show. The Books and it's players have always been a cyborg recreation of human life, but they always seemed to love the machine more. I pictured them as the Borg and saw them being content to leave everyone else behind because what they had found was better. They didn't care of anyone understood them or came along. They just did what they wanted because they had the power. So, listening to their music was a journey to a strange and distant place, but you sometimes had to struggle to keep up. I feel like Zammuto is that same cyborg coming home to apologize and try to integrate back into the human race. He is still very much disconnected from the world, and sees things differently, but there is something more approachable about it. I feel sympathy for him trying to meet us halfway, and I can respect that.

I like Tramp, but I prefer Epic. Epic was more immediate and tuneful. Nothing on Tramp has grabbed me like "A Crime" or "Peace Signs".

Oh, cool. Enjoy that Andrew Bird concert. He's pretty amazing to watch live, and I think his new album is actually designed specifically to translate into a live performance.

Hell yes; Seems we have the same favorite tracks from Queen of the Wave.

Great work on your popmatters review of Pepe - so much detail and helpful context provided. This album really is one for the ages. Can't wait for the packaging in the CD or even better the vinyl release - I only have mp3s of the album at present.

Just wanted to share your enthusiasm for Pepe Deluxe - your Queen of the Wave review initially seemed like hyperbole but after a few listens I agree with bells on - this really is the best thing I have heard in many a year. Stunning levels of ambition and sheer music making joy. Spare Time Machine was one of my faves of the last decade and they show no signs of disappointing with the follow up, far from it. So sad this genius will no doubt go largely unheard...

The KDJE was a pickup after checking your library. Thanks for heads up! I quite like their music: I had never heard of them before. As for Queen of the Wave, I don't quite share your enthusiasm, unfortunately. Although it is a great, expertly crafted album, and I have enjoyed listening to it over the last few days, I don't believe it matches up to their previous three. I believe they reached their zenith (so far) on Beatitude. To me, that album is a masterpiece that will be hard to top. Queen is a bit too much into cinematic James Bond territory for my tastes. I miss the variety of Spare Time Machine, and the funkiness of the soul and hip hop influences on their first two albums.
