Das würde dann sicherich auch den Abstieg erklären. Aber das Jahresende wird uns eh wieder eines Besseren belehren, dass unser Geschmack immer noch relativ dicht beieinander liegt.

Dochdoch, hattest du auf jeden Fall irgendwann mal erwähnt. Das hatte ich noch auf dem Schirm. Ich weiß nicht obs an dem Alter damals lag, aber irgendwie war die ganze Zeit viel unbeschwerter. Auch wenn natürlich heute vieles anders und bei mir persönlich auch besser ist als damals, solche Kleinigkeiten vermisse ich manchmal. Auch die lastfm Community. Gefühlt war ich damals in allen Shoutboxen aktiv. :D Bandcamp hab ich auch, aber da bin ich nicht wirklich aktiv. Shoppe da ab und an mal, oder höre in Musik rein, aber das wars dann auch. Als Band ist Bandcamp aber echt super. Glaube 05/06 war auch meine MySpace Zeit, aber so richtig rekonstruiert bekomme ich das auch nicht mehr. War übrigens auch ein richtiger Tumblr Junkie damals. :D Was die Blogspots betrifft, so gibts glaube ich noch das ein oder andere. Aber es wird ja eigentlich nicht mehr gebraucht.

Hahaha, ja das gebe ich dir Recht. Man denkt immer "früher war alles besser" und obwohl der Spruch irgendwie so abgedroschen wirkt, ist da doch relativ viel Wahrheit dran. Natürlich hab ich aber auch das Gefühl, dass früher mehr Zeit für andere Dinge war und man unbeschwerter durchs Leben gehen konnte, aber irgendwie werden einem ja mit dem Alter auch gewisse Rollen aufgedrückt und man muss halt auch viel mehr seinem Alter entsprechen. Ich meine klar, ab 18 wird man ja eh als Volljährig eingestuft und jede Entscheidung ab da an, trifft man ja auf eigene Faust. Ich glaube zudem, dass wir noch die Generation sind, die mit den Anfängen des Internets aufgewachsen sind und wo noch nicht die Zensurpolizei unterwegs gewesen ist, ja es war definitiv auch unbeschwerter, es war alles neu für uns und man konnte über Blogspots auch noch geleakte Alben finden, sowas gilt ja heutzutage als tot, wie du selbst schon erkannt hast. Stimmt, man konnte ja selber auch bloggen über Tumblr.

Da schwingt halt auch immer ein wenig nostalgische Melancholie mit. Die Anfänge des Internets waren auch noch super aufregend. Hab damals mit Freunden stundenlang im Internetcafe gesessen und wir haben die Internetseiten vom Royal Bunker etc durchforstet um zu sehen was es so neues gibt. Alles musste man selber raussuchen, abspeichern etc. Da gabs noch keinen Release Friday :D Das war nochmal eine ganz andere Art Musik zu hören und zu diggen. Und ja, auch in Sachen Zensur war es quasi ein unangetastetes Feld. Ich sag nur Rotten :D

Can't help it, man! AFI are totally my jam. Listened to their, in my opinion, three best records earlier this year. I count "Decemberunderground", "Sing The Sorrow" & "Black Sails In The Sunset" to their best albums, the others are also somehow good but usually only a handful songs stick out to me, especially with their later albums. Liked that 20 year Sing The Sorrow special of theirs, and would have bought it on Bluray but looks like we only received that fan recorded concert which was uploaded to Youtube.

Ha, thank you kind sir! Discovered them in 2018 even though the album dropped in 2015. That was a time where I tried to dive deeper into the mathgrind / grindcore / mathcore genres and stumbled upon those guys. Totally worth my time, your uncle and the rest of the band really knew what they were doing, but I get the feeling that they aren't together anymore. I wish they would have received more love and attention, seeing that only 725 listeners on last.fm have heard of them.

I just think they haven't aged that well. Where are you from if I may ask? Yeah, well I am based in Germany and grew up here, so it' s mothers tongue for me, while English is more a native language for me, but hopefully I don't "sound" like a complete amateur when answering :D. I am just glad they are back together. I know Peter has a lot going on but I feared that he may have lost interest in (Melodic) Death Metal. What's your favourite album by them? Honestly I couldn't say which I like the most, and had to go by scrobbles which I think isn't represantive for a band such as Hypocrisy.

But yeah, I also think that Hypocrisy were the strongest when they let loose and just shredded their way through the whole album, so yeah I also seem to prefer their later albums, but of course can't forget about that hit that made them big "Roswell 47".

Oh ja, seit 2007 dabei, das weiß zu gefallen. Ich kann natürlich aber auch verstehen, wenn jemand Last.fm verlässt, nach allem was mit der Seite passiert ist und man auch nach bald 8 Jahren, seit dem großen Umschwung, nicht sonderlich das Gefühl bekommt, dass die Seite noch mit viel Sorgfalt weiterentwickelt wird. Wenn nicht oben die Nachricht käme, man solle ein Pro Member werden, damit man die neue Funktion nutzen könnte, würde ich glauben, das Projekt dümpele vor sich hin. Und danke für die Erklärung, ich wollte das natürlich nicht wie ein "Angriff" klingen lassen :) freue mich nur einfach immer wieder Leute zu treffen die genauso wie ich nicht ganz von Last.fm loskommen. Cool, Cool. War mir nicht sicher, ob ich mit meiner Vermutung richtig lag. So oder so auf jeden Fall schön zu sehen, dass dich auch eher die obskuren Bands ansprechen. Ich versuche tatsächlich noch die 18k Artists zu knacken dieses Jahr, allerdings richtig proaktiv komme ich wohl maximal auf 2000 round about zurück. Will dich aber auch gar nicht mit meinem langweiligen Gequassel nerven :D. Falls du irgendwas empfehlen kannst, gern her damit und ansonsten hoffe ich, dass du nicht so schnell Last.fm wieder verlassen wirst :) .

Ich mag es zu wissen, dass jemand nicht mit Scheuklappen durch die Musikwelt zieht. Klar ich hab auch meine Grenzen, wie z. B. elektronische Musik, RnB, Volksmusik, Pop Music nach Anfang der 2000er und Konsorten. Ansonsten ja ich würde mich auch vielschichtig nennen. Bei Rap bin ich sehr wählerisch, höre es aber durchaus gern wenn der Beat bei Amirap und die Texte bei Deuschrap passen. Hmm, ja gut, du hast vollkommen Recht die 18.000 Artists sind wohl schon im Februar erreicht, wollte aber auch nicht 20.000 sagen, am Ende übernehme ich mich noch :D. Hey Jens, thanks for the compliment. I am always trying to top myself with my scrobble count, but I think around 60k tracks per year is most I come up with. You know I am no fiend or any other "Short-Song-Listener" and I couldn't listen the whole day to short songs, I need my metal dose especially the ones with longer songs (Prog / Black and whatever has longer songs). Do you think you can top 45k songs this year? And how about your top album list, is there something in the cooking this year too? I am totally in the middle of doing 25 top albums again, but man this year was a wicked year full of good releases. I am having a hard time figuring out which albums make it in my list, especially after five albums have turned out being not so good as initially thought. Glad that you brought some life into my shoutbox.

Still an handful of album to listen to, but the majority of the top-50 is set. For yearly scrobbles I don't care, but lurking at the numbers in Dec is something irresistable. 45k will be tricky, but it's no goal 'an sich'.

While I was searching for one fitting Beavis and Butthead pic, I accidentally stumbled upon this crossover pic and thought man I want to use that. It's actually pretty funny because of that pic I started watching most of Beavis and Butthead episodes (especially the old ones) and thought maybe there is really a crossover episode, but I doubt it and for quite some time now it seems that most episodes seem to be deleted from the internet, so no more B&B for me anymore. Hey, yeah, it's true that we haven't talked in a while. I wasn't sure, if you were still around as you can not see the last activity of someones profile. Just because someone scrobbles music, doesn't mean the user still visits his / her profile. I have seen that they brought back the playlist function, but I am not sure, if I have ever used it or how it should work. But it sounds like the feature does not work at all :D that is last.fm for you always messing with the users feelings.

I visit every now and then. To set a new obsession or to see if the very rare new comment has appeared on my profile. I would like some new inspiration in music. I just feel like it's all lost its luster. I need something new and fresh that I love. I found Little Big which is like my favorite, but I can't always rely on them. I gave up on Die Antwoord, I can't stand them as people or their new album. I've fallen back on Metallica recently. I asked some people in a facebook group to recommend some stuff, but it just feels so drab. The playlist thing on last.fm is kind of like Spotify, but they have more stuff since you can scrobble things not available on spotify. I tried checking out my new top 30. I guess I found some stuff. I'd have to revisit it.

It takes commitment from the listener to like them and that's what I missed during the first listen. Shrine of Insanabilis: YES!! Great find. Second To Sun: That's a big surprise. I enjoyed it a lot. Arkona: Well, I still prefer the Russian Arkona, but the Polish guys are decent. Under the Pledge of Secrecy: Couldn't find the album yet, but I'm absolutely not into grindcore.... Panzerfaust: They missed a spot in my personela top-50 after the last shifting session. Great stuff! Batushka: That's one of the biggest let-downs of the year.

Yeah I had good holidays and still have a few days left. So far everything went fine and I believe a top 20 is everything I needed. It's too much work for more albums. I have stopped listening to new music on the 23rd December and I doubt in finding something worthwile on the last few days of the year, which I enjoyed with my girlfriend. I will check your list anyways, might take a few days :).

Hopefully I reach this goal in the beginning of November. I will surprise myself with this one unique scrobble as I don't want to listen to a specific track. Hey there. Yes, these guys have left quite an impression on me. I liked Oranzzi Pazzuzu very much and after I heard, that these guys are in this supergroup together with Dark Buddha Rising I needed to listen to them. It's fantastic. Of course there are many similarities with Oranzzi, but I still like to listen to this supergroup and hope, that this is not the end of it.

"Red Apollo": Great discovery, probably the best one so far in your list... and even after one spin I feel there's still potential to be a grower. "The Dawn": Your list is giving me a mathcore allergy. "The Armed": There's more to it than just chaos... but still... "Halcyon Way": Okay, good to listen to, but nothing outstanding. "Maladie": There's something addictive to this sound, but I'm not 100% convinced though.

Final part: "Bloodshot Dawn": So-so... It's not bad, but I wouldn't voluntarily give it a second spin. "Wolvhammer": Enjoyable, but a tad too longwinded. "Phantom Winter": Better than the previous album, but this band doesn't do the trick for me. "Journal": Matchore allergy... "Alkaloid": Too much focus on the technical aspect to be actually pleasant. As it stands now I almost finished listening to all 40 albums a second time but found out that some of those albums couldn't stand the test of time after a second listen that is why I might consider making a list of 30 albums. Hopefully I can finish it up around the third January week. And what about your list?

Ok looks like a top 40 list is common for 2018, as you have 40 "top albums" and my other friend also has compiled 40 albums so I will go with 40 albums too, although this could take some time, but I want to be sure that only the best albums get a mention. I will take a look in your list in the next few days and give you a feedback what I think about those artists that I listened to (depends on the genre :) )

Yeah I was one of the first users, although I believe last.fm started in 2003 / 2004, so yeah I might be one of the longest active members around here and probably will use this service until they stop supporting last.fm or I am getting too old. Well my musical voyage started around the late nineties / early 2000 with MTV, friends who already had an internet connection, finally when I had my own internet connection in 2005 it took me another year before I found out about this site from a friend who doesn't use this service anymore. It started with New Metal, Pop Punk and Metalcore, but it evolved over the years to more extreme and avantgarde music styles. My goal was to reach 10.000 different artists, and this goal has been reached. I have seen that you follow me which is cool even though we don't have many artists in common. Let's see what the year 2019 has in store for us. Cheers.

I just have finished their discography and these guys are amazing, something you wouldn't expect from a country like Chile. I was very much pleased with their whole discography even though they haven been disbanded since 2013.

Indeed, I have listened to their latest output and I gave them a three star rating on rateyourmusic. Definitely better than the last album release. There is a lot of atmospheric soundscapes and the intro track was something completely different from what you usually expect. With that said I am not into Post Rock in general, so I only listen to very few releases because of my usual taste in music.

Das mache ich mit einem guten Freund zusammen. Das hier ist meine Band. Ich weiß nicht ob dir Redrum Inc. etwas sagt... Dedpool ist daraus entstanden als die Jungs sich von ihrem alten Sänger getrennt hatten. Der Kontakt zu Jacob besteht seit Jahren weil die Jungs früher mit Hatesphere zusammen auf Europatour waren. Audiosiege haben zum Beispiel Sunn O))), Converge, Nails, Windhand und viele mehr gemastered.

Not the first and probably not the last, how do you like it so far? I just listened to the first released track, which was like a rock track mixed with blues elements. No elements of black metal were found, but that does not mean anything negative.

Hey, ich hab das Album heute auf der arbeit gehört, konnte es daher nicht mit voller Konzentration hören, aber das was ich wahrgenommen habe, klang super. Für eine Bewertung werde ich wohl noch mal konzentrierter an die Sache gehen.

ist dir wohl nicht entgangen, dass ich sie gehört habe. Ich bin ziemlich geflasht gerade auch vom aktuellen Album. Der Spagat zwischen technisch, melodisch und Eingängigkeit wurde sehr gut erreicht. Nach erstmaligen Hören gibts eine glatte 9 von 10 Punkten. Denn viele der Songs gehen sofort ins Ohr. Ein bisschen schwer tat ich mich mit dem Endstück, aber was soll man bei einem knapp 20 Minuten Song auch erwarten? Ich weiß jedenfalls noch dass ich die erste Hälfte sehr zäh fand dafür aber dann die zweite Hälfte weitaus besser ins Gehör ging.

Bei mir werden die Jungs auch ganz weit oben mitspielen, ob es am Ende für den Titel Album of the year bei mir reicht wird sich erst noch zeigen lassen, grundsätzlich und objektiv betrachtet, wird es aber sicherlich bei vielen DAS Album des Jahres werden. Aber ja ein guter Kandidat ist es alle male. Das Debüt war durchaus auch gut hörbar, aber wie du selber schon angemerkt hast, sind da wohl ein paar Ideen ursprünglich für obscura vorgesehen gewesen, die es aber dann doch auf The Malkuth Grimoire einen Platz gefunden haben.

ich merke schon, du hast deine Hausaufgaben gemacht. Das Cover ist aber auch genial, ganz zu schweigen von der Musik die sich hinter dem Cover oder besser gesagt auf der CD befindet. Mal gucken wo es sich am Ende des Jahres tatsächlich positioniert, da auch 2018 scheinbar ein gutes Jahr für gute Releases darstellt.

There were a few melodic songs that I liked, but overall it does not represent the Winterfylleth I fell in love with in 2016. I hope that this won't be their new sound and that they find their way back from almost acoustic to black metal meets atmospheric elements.

Haha ich glaube ein paar der Alben und Künstler die da noch dargestellt werden sind Hörbücher. Ich denke meine Top 25 Alben aus 2017 spiegeln ziemlich gut wider wo ich musikalisch derzeit stehe. Den Link in meiner "About Me" Section wirst du sicherlich schon gesehen haben? Falls nicht weise ich mal darauf hin :) Ansonsten hat sich mein Musikgeschmack sicherlich auch ein wenig über die letzten Jahre weiterentwickelt. Höre aber sicherlich auch noch genug Zeug was dir bekannt sein dürfte. Ansonsten kannst du ja mal sagen welche Artists / Bands dir nichts sagen, dann versuche ich ein wenig Licht ins Dunkel zu bringen.

Sollte es irgendwann passieren, dass du eine Album of the year Liste erstellst, so wäre ich vermutlich einer der ersten die sich da mal durchwuseln würden :). Zu Farsot sollte ich vielleicht sagen, dass ihre Liveperformance letztes Jahr sehr entscheidend war für die hohe Platzierung. Die war nämlich sehr überzeugend wie ich fand. Wäre für dich aber vermutlich zu weit weg gewesen, selbst ich war ja schon bedient mit den weiten Weg nach Münster. While She Sleeps haben den Dreh denke ich inzwischen komplett herausgefunden und haben auch hier dank ihrer Liveperformance auf dem Reload Festival einiges an Boden gut gemacht, so ne geile Liveband hab ich auf dem ganzen Festival nicht mehr gehört.

Abrahadabra war sehr angenehm. Seitdem war auch nichts mehr von den Jungs gekommen außer glaube vielleicht ein Livealbum, also ja ich werde definitiv reinhören, passt sicher gut zu Wacken, wo du schon von Festival Metal schreibst :D.

Ich mochte es erst gar nicht, habs aber immer mal wieder in meiner Dimmu Borgir Playlist gehört und es irgendwann mögen gelernt. Stimmt seitdem haben die nichts mehr veröffentlicht, außer einer EP im Legacy und der Forces Of The Northern Light. Ja, mit Festival Musik meine ich, dass solche Bands ja auch irgendwie darauf aus sind Live Hymnen zu schreiben. Was ja nicht zwingend schlecht sein muss. Ich finde es nur streckenweise schwierig...

Ich glaube Dimmu Borgir sind aber auch eine Festivalband. Wie viel Black Metal tatsächlich da noch drin steckt darüber lässt sich streiten, aber festivaltaugliche Musik zu machen um neue Fans dazu zu gewinnen und dennoch seinen Fans von vor 8 Jahren treu zu bleiben da gehört dennoch was dazu. Solange es mir gefällt ist mir aber egal obs trve oder untrve ist. Ich habe schon vor vielen Jahren gemerkt, dass es da leider doch recht viel Scheuklappendenken bei den sogenannten elitären Metalheads gibt, die immer noch das Wacken Lineup für den einzig wahren Metal halten ohne mal einen Blick über den Tellerrand zu werfen. Mich interessieren Bands wie Maiden, Priest, Metallica, AC/DC und wie sie alle heißen eigentlich komplett null, auch wenn ich die ersten drei mal gescrobbelt habe um den Hype verstehen zu können, welcher sich mir allerdings dennoch nicht erschlossen hat.

Oh okay mir war so als hättest du dich auch ein wenig auf Mathe konzentriert gehabt, hattest mir ja seinerzeit durchaus auch ein wenig Mathe erklärt, wofür ich natürlich noch immer sehr dankbar bin.

Ach, nicht der Rede wert. Ohne die Mathematik sieht man in der Physik nunmal kein Land, daher mussten wir am Anfang des Studiums auch diverse Mathe-Kurse belegen.

Alles klar, das dürfte so einiges erklären. Case Closed :)

Ich habe natürlich auch noch ein paar Bands die ich weiter ins Auge fassen will, aber natürlich bin ich für Empfehlungen dennoch empfänglich, sollte dir da also was ins Auge springen werde ich da auch mal reinhören. Bei Alkaloid warte ich jetzt aber erst noch bis das 2018er Album raus ist, so dass ich mal beide Alben hintereinander direkt weghören kann :)

Gute Entscheidung. Empfehlungen habe ich momentan noch keine... Was nicht heißt, dass ich nicht ein paar geile Bands entdeckt habe. Ach, doch! Eine habe ich. VALBORG falls du von denen noch nichts mitbekommen hast, hör dir mal das letzte Album ENDSTRAND an.

Doch Doch Valborg kenn und höre ich selbst, auch wenn ich bislang jedem Album nur einen Spin gegeben habe, so fand ich sie dennoch gut genug um auch weiterhin mehr von ihnen hören zu wollen.

Just discovered this tonight & it's from 2017 -- One More Slice - Post Party Depression. Also, I haven't even listened to Marilyn Manson's new album, but that's from 2017 & I plan on listening to it soon.
