Stax Records was founded in 1957 and originally based in Memphis, Tennessee. The label had a huge impact on the creation of the Southern soul and Memphis soul music styles, as well as releasing gospel, funk, jazz, and blues records. The label's house band was Booker T. & the MG's, and their biggest star was Otis Redding.
