After rock and roll split up, roll continued producing music, albeit extremely different in style from the traditional "rock" sound of rock. Comparitively, roll's style focused much more on being "roll", not only aesthetically, but philosophically and politically. Although critically acclaimed, roll was much less commercially successful than rock. In fact, even today very few people have even heard of roll. Despite this, roll has had a profound influence on much of the more popular genres. So much so that even greats of rock and roll such as Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and AC/DC dabbled in the style. Nowadays there is very little roll being produced, with Ostensibly Ossified being the most popular artist to carry the torch.
