-core stands for hardcore. so metalcore is a fusion of metal and hardcore (bands like bullet for my valentine, killswitch engage, architects) nu metal is hard to define, generally mixes genres like metal and hiphop to get stuff like limp bizkit, slipknot, korn, soad rapcore is often put with the same bands as nu metal, being a mix of rap, hardcore, rock, maybe metal. rapcore is bands like hollywood undead

rapcore is presumably a hip-hop-infused hardcore punk, like mentioned before, or (perhaps much more appropriately so) groovy NYHC/'new school hardcore'/metalcore variety with strong hip-hop sensibilities, like Biohazard. Nu metal mixes groove metal (which is a relatively close thing to new school hc/metalcore) with hip-hop and/or radio-friendly post-grunge influence. But back in the 90s/00s many people used "rapcore" and "nu metal" terms interchangeably. BFMV and Killswitch Engage aren't original "true" metalcore, they are more like "melodic metalcore" variety or something. Metalcore has became an extremely inclusive term and often borrows a lot from melodic death metal or something else, a misused term in fact... Original metalcore was much closer to groove metal like Pantera and Exhorder. For example, Integrity or Earth Crisis, or Converge and Botch, for a more technical variety.

All in all, new school hc/metalcore were, roughing up, like a version of groove metal for hardcore kids. Although some will say that the influence went rather in the opposite direction, at least partially (from NYHC/crossover to metal bands). Be it as it may, the early 90s in hardcore and metal music were all about the shifting focus from speed to mid-tempo grooves. Nu metal was essentially a climax of this trend from the commercial point of view. Borrowing from funk metal, groove metal, hip-hop and melodic post-grunge/alt. rock, bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park managed to refine such a 'groovy' sound into somewhat more radio-friendly and catchy mish-mash, successfully selling it on MTV. (not implying anything derogatory by this, and at least Korn were highly innovative, deserving their popularity in full)

I don't know if this is a legit genre/subgenre/microgenre or just a term people used to label nu metal bands back in the day but I do like Whang's band called Jynx, they are labeled as rapcore https://youtu.be/UPzKlN4VFNc

Rapcore is punk rock fused with rap. Think of bands like zebrahead or (and this is a real band) Deez Nuts

I would say it's alive and well. It's simply underground. Yeah, what AngerIsAGift91 said.

Rapcore is a real genre, although there are some bands that are wrongfully tagged as rapcore. Hollywood undead aren't rapcore or Noize MC. But RATM are defenetly for an example even tho' they use alot funk in their sound aswell. Rapcore isn't just "Rap-Metal", it's a mixture of hardcore punk aswell. Check: Reveille, (Hed) Planet Earth and Body Count.
