Psybreaks is a form of Breakbeat which emerged in the mid-1990s from the Psytrance scene. It combines broken beats from the former with the psychedelic nature and squelch sounds from the latter and Goa Trance and it usually sits between 130 and 150 BPM. Early psybreaks emerged from Goa trance and was popularized by Digitalis and later on by Mood Deluxe. It frequently used breakbeat basses and rapid melodic lines from Goa trance. As psytrance became more popular than Goa trance at the beginning of the new millennium, its influence on psybreaks increased. In the late 2000s, a newer style emerged incorporating hard psytrance basslines as well as Electro-influenced snares, sometimes including Industrial screeches and Drum and Bass drum patterns. Labels specialized in psybreaks include Broken Robot Records, Luminus Music, Neom Recordings and VIM.
