Proto-techno refers to early forms of electronic music that helped influence the emergence of Detroit techno in the mid to late 1980s (as well as other forms of dance music). Prime examples of influential proto-techno include the work of Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder in the 1970s, as well as the Beatles song "Tomorrow Never Knows" (1966).
