Mega funk is a form of Funk brasileiro that emerged in the 2010s, primarily characterized by the blend of funk vocal performances with production derived from mainstage 2010s House genres like Brazilian Bass and Slap House. While the genre's exact origin is disputed, it originated in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, where it likely first developed as a style suited for car speakers, and it additionally has its origins in the previously popular style of Eletrofunk. It has since then become a popular style for sound system competitions, because of its heavy sub-basses and big sound. Unlike other funk genres, which are mostly released in singles and albums, mega funk is typically centered around DJ sets.

Though artists have argued where the sound specifically formed, with Florianópolis, Itajaí, Curitiba, and Navegantes all claiming to be mega funk's birthplace, it has nonetheless spread throughout Southern Brazilian states and even outside these states, with popular mega funk hits receiving national attention. Some of the genre's leading DJs include Rodrigo Campos, Matheus PR, and DJ Thiago SC. Cover versions of popular hits have also become a trend within mega funk, such as DJ Jonatas Felipe's re-purposing of David Guetta's "Sexy Bitch" inside a mega funk set. Though mega funk particularly incorporates funk samples and vocals, other popular genres of Brazilian Music are occasionally mixed as well, resulting in "mega" Sertanejo, "mega" Pagode, and even mega gaitaço fusions.
