Lowend is a Hip Hop subgenre that is characterized by rhythms driven by steady eighth-note digital handclaps, rattling bass, fast tempos, upbeat sound, and laid-back flows. Lowend songs are usually short and rarely last over two minutes.

It was pioneered in the early 2010s by artists from Milwaukee's east side, such as Munch Lauren and Bankhead, who themselves took inspiration from the local jack music fad invented by Eastside L Boog. Like jack music, lowend also takes a lot of inspiration from Bounce. The name "lowend" was coined after the "lowends", the part of East Milwaukee where the street numbers are the lower ones on the city's grid system. It gained popularity as a name after Lil Sinn's song "Lowend".

Since the 2020s, a new generation of artists emerged carrying on the lowend legacy and contributing to its rising popularity, with rappers and producers such as Certified Trapper, Èsco, ThatGuyEli and AyooLii. Aside from its local popularity, lowend has also gained popularity outside of its original scene through social media, notably attracting the interest of rappers such as BabyTron, Duwap Kaine, and Sada Baby.

Common topics involve dancing and speeding cars, and a lot of humor is used in lowend songs. It is typically danced to by twerking and performing local Milwaukee dances, and it has inspired many dancing challenges on TikTok.
