Dungeon synth has been the catalyst for numerous styles and hybrids of black metal. Recently, a rather unusual combination of the two genres has gained further definition: Keller synth, which features the synthesizer as the lead instrument, blending with the darker rhythms of drums and often incorporating dance motifs. Curiously, this genre typically omits the use of electric guitars.

The origin of this direction can be traced to German musician Andreas Bettinger, also known as Black Son of Darkness (B.S.o.D.). He is the creator of a wide range of musical projects, which include those specifically focused on Keller synth.
