Funkot (a.k.a Hardfunk, House Kota or Indonesian Hardcore) is a genre that derived from Jakarta, in the district of Kota, Indonesia.
derived from Dangdut koplo and taking production techniques from trance and house, this fast genre usually on a range from 160 to 180 bpm (with some productions reaching up to 220bpm), mixes breakbeat rhythms with cowbells, Indonesian percussions, funky basslines, sampling and riff covering from Eurodance music. Vocal fillers and long drum only intros/outros are usual making the genre very DJ friendly.
some tracks slow down the genre to 130 and take more influences from house and breakbeat rather than trance and Eurodance, this offshot know as breakbeat kota.

although the genre born on Indonesia in the early 2000's it wasn't popularized outside indonesia until 2009, when DJ Jet Baron discovered a Funkot record in a store world music bin and promoted it in Japan where it was later mixed in with Hardcore and J-pop, becoming very popular in Doujin scene and later on the internet.
modern productions tend to switch to a different to a different music genre mid-track and then back to Funkot for the outro.
