Is Deathcore a death metal subgenre or a metalcore subgenre? It's a question as old as time itself and nobody seems to be able to figure it out. I think it's both.

It's a hybrid genre of a hybrid genre (metalcore). Metalcore is a hybrid genre between thrash metal and hardcore, and then deathcore is a hybrid between metalcore and death metal. But it's not really as simple as that--if you try to make a metal family tree it's an absolute mess because there are all these subgenres and hybrid genres that draw elements from genres further up the tree. Using the family tree as an example, it's like the great-grandmother married the second cousin and gave birth to the third cousin's uncle. It's all just a jumbled mass /// And then beyond that, there's the issue that a lot of modern deathcore bears zero resemblance to OG deathcore, dropping most of the death metal aspects in favor of weird techno bullshit

I wonder if it's because they don't bother to look beyond what is the most popular, Suicide Silence for a example. impending Doom is awesome, one of my favorite deathcore bands. I'm also liking Lorna Shore. But even metalhead elitists will trash them. Maybe it's the cleans..

How do I see the future of the genre? Most likely it's a little blackened, melodeath, very symphonic, with epic choral clean vocals, where there are only breakdowns of deathcore. A perfect example is the track The Prophet's Beckoning (feat. Tom Barber) from the album Reclaimer by Shadow of Intent.

serious question, is there any deathcore that isn't just a bunch of boring un-musical riffs over some lame "death growls" and blast beats while having lyrics that sound like my edgelord 12-year-old brother wrote? if anyone can recommend me deathcore that is actually good, which by my definition, has to have good songwriting and melody, and must stand out from other bands in some way, then please by all means recommend me something good.

UnderscoreRou
because it's 10000000% deathcore :)) Actually? I don't have a clue. It's just like how one of my favourite metal bands is tagged as Guatemalan pop. I assume it's just algorithms breakng.

I still don't understand why after all these years the Deathcore and Death Metal scenes seem like two separate entities. I'd love to see more Deathcore and DM bands tour together but it doesn't seem to happen often enough. I've been into Deathcore since about 2008 and have never understood why so many people only listen to one or the other. In the Myspace era I could get it because a lot of old school DM fans are really into looking tough or something and thought skinny guys making Deathcore are wimpy? I know that makes no sense but some people think that way.

Really, Impending Doom, Winds Of Plague and a few others I don't recall at the moment sound more like death metal to me anyways.
