Hey man. Nice to finally hear from you. I haven't heard of the human arts ensemble but they sound cool. I'll send you the Derek Bailey album to your message box on last.fm. Peter Brotz. Tentet was amazing btw. No funny stuff....Peter Brotz. all the way! "Flowers For Bob" started playing automatically when I was writing this shout. It's amazing man. What exactly did you do? On Friday I had a free jam with some friends of mine (DEAF Quartet) and we recorded and there's some interesting stuff man...it was so much fun. You have to come here one day to do some recordings with us (though if you go to Bristol, we can make some sweet recordings then as well). Ornette Coleman: "Change Of The Century", "The Complete Science Fiction Sessions", "Free Jazz", "The Shape...", "Something Else!!!", "This Our Music", "Tomorrow is the Question". Any suggestions? Oh and Zappa Plays Zappa come here during study leave...

Hey man. Nice to finally hear from you! My e-mail address is danielsanchezclemente@yahoo.com - feel free to send me whatever you want. It's probably easier if we stay in contact through e-mails as you hardly ever check your last.fm. The Derek Bailey album is with Jamaaladeen Tacuma and Calvin Weston so it's basically free funk. It's good though - if you want I can send it to you. By the way, I'm most likely going to go and see the Peter Brotzmann Chicago Tentet play in the Bimhuis in Amsterdam with my dad. Can't wait! P.S. Nice new look and happy new year as well, and congrats on our compatibility. What uni.s did you apply for again and how's all that going? Good luck!

Have you listened to Derek Bailey's "Mirakle" on Tzadik Records? Wasn't expecting this from Derek, but good on him!

Hey man. I know exactly what you mean by "Kontakte" not having aged well. The excessive panning and the actual sounds used are a bit ridiculous for today's standards. Still a nice listen nonetheless. Trout Mask? What's that? I'm guessing you either want [spam] or [spam] to share it with...

No I haven't...I'm guessing it's an album...and I'm guessing it's good. I've just listened to "Karma" by Pharoah Sanders for the first time, and it's great! I also just rented out to cds from the local library - "Kontakte" by Karlheinz Stockhausen and "Sonatas & Interludes for Prepared Piano" by John Cage. "Kontakte" is good man, and I haven't listened to the other one. How was your half-term?

It's Miles DAVIS. I don't care if he's avant-garde or not. I'm listening to him, recorded in 1958 or so, with Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane. Do I care if this is avant garde or not? I don't there there is an avant-garde in jazz any more. There are people exploring the edges maybe, but I don't know that I want to stick a label on that (and kill it).

Hey dude. How you doing? I was wondering if you compose at all. I was also wondering if you play jazz (preferably free) with anyone. I'm desperate to find an upright bass player to be able to jam out some songs with some people. Is that a problem over there too? - I mean it seems like no-one our age plays double-bass and is into free jazz or even jazz. I mean I have a drummer, but that's about it. I really want to play "Lonely Woman" and make a decent arrangement of it and I'm working on it but I need a bass player. Haha, I dunno why I'm telling you this but I guess I'm just curious about what suggestions you might have. If you ever come to Holland we've got to record something man.

Coltrane? I have "Blue Train", "Giant Steps", "Impressions", "A Love Supreme", "The Major Works Of John Coltrane" (WHICH IS NOT A GREATEST HITS - IT'S BASICALLY "ASCENSION" (BOTH TAKES) + "OM", "KULU SE MAMA" AND "SELFLESSNESS" - GREAT ALBUM) and "My Favorite Things" all on hard copy :D. Why? You want some? What do you have? P.S. that David Murray album - "Ming" - is amazing man. Thanks for sending it to me. You should send me Derek Bailey's best album man...I need to listen to an album by him.

P.S. yeah, carnegierehuw hall is a hard one to spell but I haven't listened to it...quite a few people have a live at carnegie..wtvr hall don't they? And The Man I Love is good. I recommend Monk's Music though...or Thelonious Monk With John Coltrane.

Look, tapes are fine when you're recording on to them in a studio. But when it comes to homeplay they come nowhere near to vinyls or cds. I mean get a 20 year old vinyl and a 10 year old tape and the tape sounds like it needs a heart transplant whilst the vinyl sounds like it hasn't even hit puberty yet! Cassette tapes suck and you know it :P!

Oh yeah. Of course I smell...I mean I dunno how it is in the town of Bunburry, but here it's 25 degrees. So I smell. But yeh, I want to listen to Spy vs. Spy cos my dad recommended it...but wtf, he gave it to me in tape...CASSETTE! I hate those things! They always sounds like they've been shitted on and run over by an angry hippo 2.5 times.

Oh yeah. And you don't actually own a copy of Machine Gun do you? 'Cos you know we had that discussion about the takes... on my dad's cd, it says track 1 = Machine Gun (Second Take), track 2 = Machine Gun (Third Take). There is no Machine Gun first take!

haha man. Pure coincidence. I'm listening to Frank Zappa and I was gonna ask you which was your favourite album by him and then I see that the last thing you've listened to is Zappa. Great man! P.S. I highly recommend Cecil Taylor esp. Conquistador. Just give me a shout if you want a link for it.

You PLONKA!! The Harry Miller Quintet album is the one I recommended you a while back. It's the one I said was great with a South African bass player and Han Bennink. My dad has it on vinyl...I swear I told you...remember when I said a friend came over to listen to vinyls and he found one with Han Bennink in it so we listened to it...that's the one! haha, I might've only told Tom...

I do Russian history next year. Well I think it's just Stalin. But it should be sweet. I think the trumpeter who's coming is Dave Douglas.
Åtgärder
-
Fatdanielskinny
Yeah Russia does play an important role in the causes of WWI. I like the topics I'm doing for history, they're interesting. OH yeah, by the way, the trumpet player of Masada is coming to Amsterdam. I think I'm going to go (maybe with my dad - he told me about it).

Something Else!!! is great. It took me a while to actually get to listen to the full thing. But it's actually really good. Not as exp. as The Shape of Jazz To Come of course. For history, this year I'm doing for coursework the causes of world war one. Then a source paper on The Seeds of Evil (rise of Hitler) and another paper on Mussolini.

-

Hey dude. You do history? That's cool, so do I. What's the coursework question?

Cool. I'll ask my dad if he has any of those albums you recommended. How's life anyway? Did you listen to the entire four parts of the Albert Ayler radio documentary?

No way! Are you serious? And yes a great album...especially the Indian of the group you mentioned :D. Do you think Flower Punk is actually sped up?

It turns out that Harry Miller is a South African bass player. The other musicians in the album are Mark Charig, Wolter Wierbos and Sean Bergin.

Hey. I don't know if there are videos on youtube - I'll check it out. The reason why I checked that album out is that a friend of mine came over to listen to some vinyls so he got here and we went to the collection and then my friend saw one where Han Bennink was on the front cover. He asked me who HArry MIller was and I had no idea, but since it had Han Bennink we listened to it and it was great!

In my album I wouldn't really call them church-style hims but more folky/traditional/nursery tunes. It's great. I heard about Don and the mental asylum but not about Albert. Pretty weird stuff.
