Been a while. How's everything going? And can you believe I had to skip the bfl show in SF? Work got too hectic and couldn't afford the time and energy :( I didn't even get the chance to dump them on stubhub. At least I got the new live EP. Have you heard this? https://www.last.fm/music/Bat+for+Lashes/_/The+Boys+of+Summer+-+Live+at+EartH,+London,+2019 Discovered any new jams lately? Your recent track right now looks pretty french lol!

Meant to write back sooner. I spent the holidays mostly trying to learn more spanish by taking lessons on the PC, so not much listening to music. You know, everytime I listen to Closer, I think, man it's not bad at all! But my favorite is the JD Substance (singles collection) to go along with the NO Substance. NO is definitely much easier to digest! I guess Mon Laferte made the news big time recently with her protest of Chile at some awards show. Not sure if I totally understand the way she carried it out, but if it draws attention to her cause, then good. I still really like her music nevertheless!!!

Wow, Joy Division Closer. What do you think? I think I like New Order more hehe. Anyhow, I finally finished Just Kids. Makes me want to watch the MIdnight Cowboy movie now, since it got mentioned it the book so much. Have you seen it? And what do you think of Patti Smith's music? I think it's just okay, a little overrated to be honest, but not bad. Hope you have a nice holiday break!!!

Yeah, the Meg Myers video was pretty cool. I wonder how she tot so many kids to do the coloring. This version of the video is cool too, almost like she was channeling Kate in those early 80's videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvTlo5pVZ9k I haven't read any Brautigan, although I recall a college roommate who was really into it. Do you like his poetry or novels? And do you read real books or ebooks? Nowadays, it's all ebooks for me. I like being able to touch a word on the kindle and lookup the definition right away, rather than to crack open a dictionary. I'm also buying more ebooks than I can ever read. Like I just bought a Tom Petty biography on sale for $1.99. Will probably read that next, although I'm just a mild fan.

Still hard to say where Lost Girls rank. Fun to listen to, but not as artistic as the others. Not sure why I care if music is artistic or not, but I do. Fun should be good enough, right? LOL. By the way, I had just started reading Just Kids. I feel like I'm such a slow reader. Been at it for a week, and my kindle says 38% done only. I have always known that Mapplethorp was a famous photograph, but never knew that Patti was with him. The book started pretty slow at first, but I'm very into it now. So far, sounded like a fun time for them. Wish my youth was that exciting hehe. Reading anything exciting lately?

Haven't started reading Patti Smith book yet. I keep buying kindle books when they go on sale, but no time. Have you seen this? https://www.bookbub.com Lots of good ebooks go on sale for like $1.99. Anyhow, I just got tickets to see BFL in San Francisco. Too bad you are so far away!

Oooh, thanks for the bfl link! She is so 80's haha, and likes a lot of our heroes. Makes me want to read "Just Kids". I think you've probably read that already :-D. I actually bought the kindle version a couple months ago, but haven't cracked it open yet. Inspired now though!!!

My favorite is Jasmine so far. I was just looking at the liner notes for the CD. Seems like different people worked on it, so maybe it's why the vibe is different. NK played a lot of the instruments and did a lot of the production. My favorite so far is Jasmine. I think the album is short enough to listen to often :-D Pretty 80's sounding overall. I like the album, but I wouldn't be obsessed with BFL if this was my first introduction. I'll have to check out Tove Styrke, since you been listening to it so much it seems.

Looks like Ladytron paid for all the physical CDs and vinyl to gain control after Pledge Music went bankrupt. They asked me to pay extra for shipping if I still want my CD. Well, I know they are not a big time band, and so I said okay and paid them about $10 US. I guess I wanted to help them out because they did the right thing by buying all that merchandise that was sitting in a warehouse. I always wish that they could be a bigger band. Oh wel...

Hard to believe that the new BFL is coming out pretty soon. I already pre-ordered on Amazon, but won't go crazy and splurge on the box set this time. KInda cautious about it :) For me so far, my preference is: The Bride > Two Suns > Fur and Gold > The Haunted Man. And Laura is still one of my favorite songs. I know you are into Siouxsie, but are you into The Cure too? My favorite is probably the Kiss Me X3 album. To me, the Cure sounds pretty psychedelic, like what one might listen to while stoned or trippin', haha. Their stuff gets old after a while, but I always go back to it.

Haha, well TRS isn't many people's favorite Kate album. But I've always liked it though! I remember the songs Eat the Music, Rubberband Girl, and The Red Shoes were played on the local radio's rotation, and I was thinking, Kate is going to be a star! I still like Tori, but not as much as back then. At least she made Under the Pink! I used to really like Scarlet's Walk! Oh wow, Deftones too! And what you said about DM was pretty funny. I remember that at the show, all the girls went crazy whenever Dave Gahan shook his ass on stage. I did try to get into some rock in the 90's, like Smashing Pumpkins. But it's so hard rocking that it's difficult to listen to more than a few of their songs at a time without getting worn out. BTW, I just heard the next BFL song, Feel for You. Makes me wonder...uh...please don't lose me Natasha! I'll give it a few more listens later.

Haha, never knew you were into nu-metal! Family values? Now, that's a hilarious name for a tour! Don't quite remember what I was into during the 90's. I liked Bjork for sure. I remember seeing Depeche Mode, oh, and I got to see The Sundays in SF in 97. I'm still not much of a rocker, but man, rock seems pretty dead these days. Not sure what happened. Rap? As much as I make fun of hair metal and grunge, I don't want to see rock dying like it is right now. I want to see it make a come back.

Good to hear from you! I haven't found anything new myself lately. I recently tried to get into: https://www.last.fm/music/Connie+Converse I saw her a story about her in a youtube video. I think her story might be more interesting than her music. She disappeared one day, and no one knew what happened. I'll give it a few more tries I suppose. I listened to Strawberry Swichblade a little bit, since I saw you were playing it. Some other older stuff I need to get into are Tool and Korn. A friend who is into rock convinced me to get a ticket to https://aftershockfestival.com for Sunday. Crystal Method might be okay, kinda eletronic, but still pretty rocky. Not sure why I never got into that stuff though. Maybe it was too mainstream and not hip enough? LOL. Hey, I hope you are feeling better. Oh, and cool avatar by the way!!!

Kinds in the Dark probably could have gone on longer. Not sure why they cut it short and faded it out. It still sounds good though! I really think it has an 80's R&B style. Would be cool if it became a hit, but unlikely, maybe a few decades ago lol. You're always listening to interesting stuff. Now I got to check out Sainkho Namtchylak!

Wow, just happened to me too. I posted you a shout and it disappeared :( Anyhow, I just got the new BFL single and listening to it for the first time. I like it, kinda 80's vibe, but it doesn't sound like a hit. New album this year, yay!!! My favorite is still the bride and I hope the new one tops it. There's been a heat wave in California. 100+ this week. Grateful for AC, heck yeah! I liked Marina's Froot and Electra Heart, but I can't feel the new album yet. Will give it a few more tries.

Yeah, still trying to learn spanish, a little bit at a time. I've been using the DuoLingo phone app, which makes me take a lesson a day. They have French too I think. Most of the time, I still am not sure what Mon Laferte is singing about. But now I know Ronronreo means purr, so that's why she rolls her tongue with the R's so much lol. Funeral is becoming my favorite from Norma, but the lyrics are pretty sad. I think I'll slowly work my ways backwards with Weyes Blood and the next one for me to check out is Front Row....

I have only seen one video of Mon Laferte at Coachella on Youtube, just Amarrame. Good song and performance. I like her later songs--they sound more traditional and less like rock. Not sure why her whole set has not been posted, or I just suck at finding them. Do you like the other previous Weyes Blood albums too? Titanic Rising is so good for night time listening!

Came back last Friday after spending week there. Was bummed out that Mon Laferte played in Zapopan yesterday, and not when I was there. I would have paid for a VIP ticket!!! My co-worker showed me some photo and video taken by a friend who went to the show. Oh well, I'm sure I'll get to see her play, but would have been more fun in Mexico. Anyhow, the trip was fun. As a team builder, we visited to the Cuervo factory, and after a few shots, they taught me a bunch of curse words, which to me was the highlight of the trip.

Definitely hope to have time for fun outside of work. It's Guadalajara, so there should stuff to do after hours! Anyhow, I just lost of tons of scrobbles from my phone after the last.fm app crashed during the scan and submit routine. I think most of it was mostly New Order Technique. Starting to rediscover that album. What a strange mix of rock and dance songs. But still, I think it works as a whole.

Shenandoah...reminds me of that cool John Denver song! Hmm, I think he sang about the river though, haha. I'll have to checkout Aldous Harding then. I just got Mon Laferte Norma. Not sure if I'll learn more Spanish by listening to that stuff. Yeah, I saw some of her Coachella footage on youtube. She seems really talented and has a cool look to go along with it. I'll be spending a week in Mexico for work mid-may, so I hope all the spanish learning pays off. What's strange is that my coworkers there don't like much contemporary or even latin music, and they all seem to like rock from a decade or more ago. But one of them did recommend Mon Laferte to me!!!

I really like North, South, East and West too. I'm sure the Church guys smoked a lot of dope while making that album. Their stuff is so slow and mellow. This cover is not great, but amusing: https://www.last.fm/music/The+Church/_/Hounds+of+Love I'll have to put the new Weyes Blood on my night time rotation. To me, her style is similar to Mitski, but less electronic. My assessment might be way off though! How's the new PJ Harvey? I thought I saw you listen to that :-D

I don't think you gave up on the Jenny Lewis too soon. I listened to it a few times to give it a benefit of doubt. It's not bad, but not great either. I'll have to checkout Weyes Blood. I tend to like a lot of stuff that you like a lot! I take it that you can't scrobble on your phone. I use an iphone and it's not a good experience, since I have to use the last.fm app to scan for my listens first. I have a different portable player with audiophile quality sound, but no scrobble, so that sucks. I read a promo email that PJ Harvey is releasing a soundtrack soon. That should be interesting.

Meant to write back sooner, but been too busy to even listen to music. Glad you like Kristeen Young! I wish she was bigger though. She's been making albums since the late 90's and had lots of high profile guests (Bowie, Grohl) on her albums, but somehow just hasn't made it big. I really like this New Order cover that she sang on with some band named Guides: https://www.last.fm/music/Guides/_/Leave+Me+Alone+(Feat.+Kristeen+Young) For many years, Morrissey tried to give her exposure as his open act, but no more. He supposedly caught a cold from her, had to cancel tour dates, and blamed her for it. Yeah, he puts on a good show, and his fans know all the words and go crazy for him. I'll have to get his live DVD before I forget and it goes out of print. I'm almost excited about the upcoming Marina album. Hope she hasn't sold out and gone all pop. I really liked her Froot album, which probs sounded good to me because it was produced by David Kosten--also the producer of 1st 3 BFL albums.

Did you like the Kristeen Young? I saw her open for Morrissey twice and have all her albums. My favorites are probably The Orphans and Music for Hookers... I can relate to her energy, but sometimes her sound is hard to take. Yeah, Kate was way cute in her youth. Amazing how she wrote so many great songs in her teens.

Just heard that Julia Jacklin song on youtube, thanks! Yeah, sounds like an artist I need to get into. She definitely has a serious SVE vibe. I'll have to watch more of her youtube videos. Awesome that your family likes BFL. When music is truly good, anyone can get into it, if exposed. I wonder if people consider her a one hit wonder, since her only hit really is Daniel. She had so much momentum after Two Suns. I hope she wasn't too artsy for her own good with The Haunted Man. Although Laura is one of my favorites, maybe it shouldn't have been the first single. But heck, not sure anything sounds like a single from that album. The Bride is still my favorite. Wikipedia says it debuted at number 9 on the UK Albums chart with 8,242 copies sold in its first week. But jeez, that's not a lot for a top 10 album! I think "If I Knew" could have been an Adult Contemporary hit if given the chance.

I like the music memoirs too! I really liked Bobbie Ann Mason's biography on Elvis Presley. Read that one while waiting to be selected for jury duty--didn't get picked though haha! I want to read the No One Gets Out Alive (on Jim Morrison) when it comes out on Kindle later this year. I haven't started the Steve Jobs biography that I got as a gift several years back, so that one is probably next. I used to like mystery (Sue Grafton) and true crime (Ann Rule), but never tried getting into fantasy. As for the Ladytron CD, at least I got to download the flac files before the release, so I'm okay with it. Kinda sad that nowadays even accomplished musicians have to find creative ways to fund their projects. Too bad they never had big hits after going at it for a decad and a half. I do wonder if they make enough on music and merch to survive, and if they need to have real jobs outside the band.

The new Ladytron is so good that I started listening to it instead of the new SVE. I still think Witching Hour and Velocifero and even Gravity are hard to top. My only gripe is that I had pre-paid PledgeMusic (like a Kickstarter for musicians) for the CD a year ago and since the company mismanaged their money, I still haven't received it. I'm sure other people have paid for more expensive items and all the merch is sitting in some warehouse. Not even sure if Ladytron got paid by them. Never heard of Wheel of Time. I looked it up on Amazon, and it looks like fantasy. Lots of pages or audio time. Good stuff? I still read on the kindle every so often (mostly biography), but need to try to read more.

Yeah, too much new music is right! I do like the new Anna Calvi. Got the MP3s for sale $6.99 when it came out, haha. She's not on my physical media list anymore, but I still like her and want her to make it big. She's probably too artistic for her own good. I really like her second album too, although it took many listens. With re-listening to Kate, I'm starting to like Lionheart more. TSW and TD will always be my favorites. I heard HOL first, then got confused with my first listen to TKI. It's like, is the singer for HOL and TKI really the same person? The new SVE is starting to grow on me. Wish I got to see her live. I'm so jealous! So what audiobooks you listening to? I used to listen to borrow them on CDs from the library a lot when I had a long commute. I know my public library has some app called overdrive that lets me checkout e-audio books, so I'll be trying that out. Easier for me to listen than read when there are too many pages.

Just got the new Sharon album on MP3 last night. Will probably take me a few more listens to appeciate it. I think she's getting more artistic every album. Didn't know she had been acting. A part of me still miss this style: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBUea1YEpuc Hey I like Les Rita MItsouko. Very surprised that you listen to that stuff, but maybe I shouldn't be, haha. I don't have any Supertramp. I want to get more into the classic rock stuff, like The Doors. Some of their stuff is pretty pyschedelic, or creepy sounding perhaps. I like covers of their stuff too, like Echo and Bunnyman with "People Are Strange" and Siouxsie with "You're Lost LIttle Girl".

Yeah, sucks that the part 2 set didn't work out, but at least I got to rip the other discs before returning them! I feel bad about it all though :( What I was mainly after from that box was "Humming", since that's the only song I don't have. Not sure if I like Bertie replacing Rolf Harris's vocals on the Aerial 2nd disc, but I guess Kate didn't like his conviction. Glad she didn't replace him playing the didgeridoo on The Dreaming song though. I definitely plan to get the new Sharon Van Etten, but on digital though :-) I'm glad she became a star, since she seems so nice. I remember ordering her "Home Demos" CD from her web site back when she still had time to run it. She was out of them, and weeks later when a bunch more got made, she mailed it to me with a personal note thanking me for waiting and threw in a free "Because I Was In Love" CD.

Hmm, I got the Kate remasters part 1 CD box, but returned the part 2 box because 50 Words had a big scratch on it, which stopped my CD reader towards the end of Lake Tahoe. Didn't notice till I was trying to rip it for my phone. Lots of bad reviews on the quality of part 2 CD box on Amazon. Folks complained about scratches, scuffs, missing CDs, etc. Glad that it was so easy to get a refund. That's a shame because it was so nice. But since it was kinda pricy, I could not justify keeping it, or even risk ordering again and getting another bad set of discs. I would have kept it if the damaged disc was from Before the Dawn, since that one is not remastered and not one of my favorites. Yeah, Kacey's songs are definitely sweet. Not burnt out on Golden Hour yet!
