Not sure if it was intentional, but I like that you listed Shiner and QOTSA side-by-side. I've always considered them to have such similar vocal melodies and vocal cadences, bass / guitar syncopation, etc. To me, 'Era Vulgaris' is like if Shiner made a straight rock n roll album; 'The Egg' as if 2007 to 2014 ish QOTSA got a bit more lucid with time sigs and polymeter. I do actually consider Era Vulgaris my gateway into the ""math rock"" mindset as a teenager (tho I hate the term). Anyway. Hell yeah for Riddle of Steel, they never got the recognition they deserved </3

I saw these guys performing at the Sweden Rock Festival I wasn't even aware of it that these guys were the Tubes! And at the beguinning of there show I though the lead singer was some kind of a freak (lol) But the more I watched and listened I reolised that that was just part of the show. I actually really enjoyed there humor and the jokes that Mr. Waybill was performing. Thanks a lot for your act.

Funny story on how I got to Thomas' work. In 2009, I was a kid obsessed with Jimmy Neutron's movie, and there was a She Blinded Me With Science cover, super poppy cover. So I just straight up searched the name on YouTube. Instantly found the crazy videoclip with a Nerdy guy like me talking about science and girls at the same time. I was instantly hooked, and still am.

A lot of the really great recent stuff springs from CU vets tbf, like Scurvine, which shares members with Love Cup and a couple of Tim Lash side-projects. Smile Politely and that Champaign is Also a Band podcast have been good resources in introducing me to the NEW new CU music goods over the years
