I've been a big Royal Trux fan in the past, although I haven't listened to them in a few years. Twin Infinitives is such an amazing album and it sounds like nothing else, past or present. I don't think I've written anything about the album, though, but if I ever do I shall let you know! Let's hope Royal Trux reform on a permanent basis and do a lot of touring :]

The avatar didn't really work with the new stupid circular design. Hopefully he will return one day when last.fm come to their senses!

Hahaha. No, I'm definitely not that. Hopefully one day, though. I prefer a cup of green tea to earl grey. But you're right: everyone whose favourite band is the Fall is really a bit of a thug at heart and could never pull of a monocle.

I saw your comment on Tame Impala's "Eventually" and I tried mixing it with Radiohead's "All I Need" like you suggested and even though I totally understand what you're getting at, they just don't wanna gel together, sorry. Wanted to send you the mix but I just couldn't get it right

That's cool, I stay around the Carrollton/Farmers Branch area. Grapevine is around the block from where I say at.

We got buzzed together, ate bread pizza, and watched American Beauty. I recommend every Tim Hecker album.

yeah, finding nearby friends who are also into weird music is a never-ending journey. I'm in the richardson area myself. grapevine seems farther away to me than it probably actually is

Of course I want to be in it. How do we do this? Email? I can make electronic music, play electric Setar (it sounds like electric guitar) and sing weirdly! :D

I went on a trip for a few days. The high point was listening to Bach's Mass in B Minor followed by Spring Heel Jack's Live album while high as fuck ... now I firmly believe they're the two greatest pieces of music ever :D

I love "Twin Infinitives" and "Mother of All Saints" but I haven't heard anything other than these 2 albums by either RT or TFUL282. If you could tell what's up with the rest of their discographies I would be eternally grateful! :)

My friendly suggestion about Beefheart: Screw TMR, it's the worst possible way to start with his discography. The first Beefheart album I seriously got into was his last album "Ice Cream For Crow" and I ended up being a huge fan of his music. I highly recommend it. I think any of his last three albums will do the trick.

We're on the very same page dude, 'cause I too LOVE White Light/White Heat waaaay more than any other rock album. It's one of the best things in my life. Every song on the album rules. I've had several epiphanies while listening to Sister Ray (and almost all of them have happened exactly on the 15:56 mark). Sometimes I feel the song is the only time when actual MAGIC happened in the freaking history of mankind .... Am- phe-phe-phe-phe-phe-phetamine :D

His next album is my personal favorite: Lick My Decals Off, Baby. It's just as creative as TMR (sometimes even more ... there are certain moments on the album that I'm amazed he could even IMAGINE, let alone write and record) but its mood and tone are very different. It doesn't give the TMR impression of mad Beefheart lost in his own fantasies and hallucinations. Instead, you get a much more adult Beefheart communicating with the world and enjoying his presence in it. Even better, there are no more than 15 songs on it, there are no acapella tracks, field recordings, bad production or Zappa jokes. And there are two drummers and a marimba on most tracks. And on some songs it gets catchier than Safe as Milk. ... It's the best introduction to the hardcore-avantgarde side of Beefheart's music, mainly because it's his best album.

"I understand it better every time and yet it is still a labyrinth of confusion and noise" I totally know what you mean man. I've been enjoying Beefheart's other albums for years but it took me 8 years to finally actually want to listen to Trout Mask Replica for sheer pleasure (and it totally worked, it's awesome, it's not noise when you're in the mood for it) . And I blame my over-reliance on reviews by people like Scaruffi for the 8-year delay. Seriously, his review for TMR is a pretentious pieces of garbage written by some confused person who doesn't enjoy listening to the album so he just says it's really really really really avant-garde. The truth is, TMR is an honest and extremely enjoyable album but mostly for rare occasions when you're feeling as twisted and fucked up as Beefheart & the magic band did when they wrote, practiced and recorded the album. It's not some complicated art statement. It doesn't need a very special "key" to unlock the "mystery".

Hey, well it's been ages since I've listened to it, but I was always impressed by how they managed to make something that doesn't really sound like any other albums; it's like an amphetamine-hazy walk though some dangerous neighbourhood; a grunge-era update of Trout Mask Replica.

Was just listening to that album this morning for the first time, while getting ready for work. Will definitely be giving it a closer listen in the near future. I've read people complain that it's their most accessible album and I never quite sure why that's considered a bad thing. So how have you been? Any new musical adventures?
