Hi. I saw you were looking for songs in the same vein as Primal Scream's Higher Than the Sun (A Dub Symphony in Two Parts) some years ago. Did you get any good answers?

R.E.M. is one of my favorites, pretty seminal band. I would start from the beginning and work up as most of their early albums are 5 star. My favorite album is Fables of the Reconstruction. Start with 'Murmur', 'Reckoning', 'Lifes Rich Pageant, 'Document'. Their 90s album Automatic for the People is a masterpiece itself even with all the cheese 90s singles.

you are leaving Norman? Yeah I play guitar and i would really like to start up some sorta shoegaze/dream pop or even just noise pop band or something. Speaking of Norman & shoegaze have you ever listened to Depth & Current? they are Shoegaze/darkwave from Norman. also yeah i was sad when Norman was taken off of the megabus route :( i had so many plans for traveling around and such. but i think a bus stops in OKC that goes to dallas and im planning on taking that to the mbv concert since my car broke down ;__;

For Dead Can Dance, it depends on what you want. Spleen and Ideal is more gothic, Within The Realm of a Dying Sun is very dark and ethereal, and Aion is very Renaissance-ish. For Eyeless In Gaza, start with Rust Red September.

For Ambient & Electronic I don't think anyone has topped the likes of Tangerine Dream, Cluster, Vangelis, Harmonia etc. Modern day Ambient groups like Boards of Canada are good but they are basically recreating Cluster's "Zuckerzeit" from 1974. I would check Tangerine Dreams stuff out from Phaedra through to the early 80's stuff like White Eagle and everything in between. I actually have 2 Slowdive albums, will give them a good listen soon.

hellz yeah, Medicine is incredible! especially if you like very textured noisy shoegaze like Astrobrite. Brad Laner's guitar work is among some of the best i've ever heard. Sometimes I think he's better than Scott Cortez. SFSL and TBL are brilliant albums, though both have different feels. SFSL is much more consistently great imo whereas TBL had a lot of growing on me to do and I still don't much care for a few tracks. The rest of their discography isn't all too great sadly :/

nice. i'm really happy you're enjoying those. the demos really are something else. sometimes i think studio versions would be awesome but mostly it's their lo-fi qualities that make me love the songs so much. :D

There are plenty of good Psychill Artists out there:))) I would start with Ten Madison, Cell, Androcell, Aes Dana, Asura, Abakus, Saafi Brothers, Kuba, Zerocult, Zymosis, Gaudi, Tripswitch, Ulrich Schnauss, Easily Embarrassed, D. Batistos, and Side Liner:))) Hope you find something:))))

um well I Could Live in Hope is definitely my favourite by them but it isn't the first I heard. The first I heard by them was either Trust or Things We Lost in the Fire. I think it'd be cool to start with I Could Live in Hope because it's their first, and you could work your way up to their most recent release. It'd be neat cause you'd get to see their gradual yet drastic changes in musical styles over their long career.
