As long as it introduces even one person to the band, I'll always be content with it happening with my favorite bands (even if I'm not a fan of streaming platforms in general). It also helps when the song blessed by the Spotify algorithm is as good of a standalone track like this one is. :) I tend to notice that when it comes to random stuff like this, the algorithm prefers shorter tracks and demos like this. Makes sense, even if it actually kind of doesn't, but whatever.

even though the studio version of the song is a masterpiece, there's just something so incredibly warm and inviting about this version, even more than any other demo I've ever heard. really wish it wasn't cut short. guess i like both versions for different reasons

When you finish listening to something, or you don't have enough songs on a free playlist, Spotify automatically plays music it detects to be similar using a number of measures (bpm, acousticness, energy, what have you). This has had the unintended consequence of certain songs, such as this demo here, being considered by the algorithm to be similar to a lot of different music. So Spotify automatically recommends it to a lot of people because it believes it has the acousticness, speed etc. of a lot of other, mostly alternative music. This also happened with Pavement and Galaxie 500, which you can see in this article that discusses it more indepthly: https://www.stereogum.com/2105993/pavement-harness-your-hopes-spotify/columns/sounding-board/
