After all these years this probably remains my favorite REM song. Such a good companion piece to Radioheads No Surprises.

It's really rather unfair that one band could constantly produce an endless line of beautiful songs. This would be the greatest song most bands would ever write. Instead, it barely creeps on to REM's 'Best Of' album, which tells you all you need to know. Can't wait for the reunion gigs whenever they happen...

"Remember the 90s when "alternative rock" was the ultimate of cool, and all of us were blinded by ignorant teenage joy? We were fucking morons then." Today, it is "indie rock" ;-) . These terms do not make too much sense in the most cases.

The very end reminds me of Sesame Street or something, lovely nostalgic sounds :)

Copy nanjamonja btw, that part followed by "I'll squeeze into heaven and valentine" always makes my heart flutter.

Stipe says they set the bar too high in a way w/ their early stuff. He says if a new band fell out of the sky and released these last few "mediocre" albums, everyone would be raving about them. Songs like this make you think he has a point.
