I hate discovering an amazing new band, only to find out they split up because someone died. A real shame. R.I.P. Michiel Eikenaar, a great vocalist and lyricist.

Tag this band as "music that could never have been imagined before the current era". These guys are insane. Who in the entire of human history has made music like this

Hafta say; Kwintessens is the best thing I've heard so far this year. Very cohesive considering the descent into madness.

Well, that was 2 days ago. With today's The Eternal Path to Nothingness by Imperceptum now I'm not so sure.

You truly shouldn't be so sure. I may not come back to Kwintessens quite as frequently as I do Dodecahedron; it’s not without its (mercifully brief) moments where one’s patience is tested, but it seems as if the group were partly aware of these, and addressed them before they became a substantial complaint. In the end, we have to ask ourselves: “what should we look for in Dodecahedron, a few years into their existence?” Technicality? Still here, in spades. Engaging riffs and melody that, while bizarre, are easily discernible, and all the more welcome for it? Got it. Pushing the limits of experimental black metal while keeping in mind that, above all, music should be listenable? Check. Coming off as completely fucking deranged? Yep. This is not the music you play to your therapist, unless you two really get along. But it is the music you put on when you want to be challenged, intellectually and emotionally.

Hmmm. Again another interesting point-of-view. Shamefully, I’ve just unearthed their 1st album moldering away in a dusty folder on an XHHD where it’s been sadly neglected for god-knows-how-long. My how time flies. My bad. I’ll get back to you on that one. On the 2nd go through of The Eternal Path to Nothingness (sans distractions) there is some annoying highband noise crackling through the speakers/ head-cans. Pretty sure it’s the shitty file. Tomorrow we’ll dl it in flac (kicking in some $$ while we’re at it) and see what’s up. Back on that one as well.

Also, the black metal dodecahedron should really be tagged as "multilateral metal"

"Dodecahedron have finished writing their sophomore full-length and will enter the studio at the beginning of August to begin the recording process. A statement from the band reveals that the forthcoming album revolves around the five geometrical forms called “Platonic solids” – one of these is the Dodecahedron. The highly-anticipated new album is expected to see a late 2016 release." This will be worth the wait.

Nice debut, but I don't get the comparison with DSO really. They're not really in the same field. Dodecahedron is more basic on the structure of their songs despite the fact it sounds more complex due to the oddity of the riffs (I'd go as far as to say, some bits really sound random). This is brutal, primitive and yet technical. Deathspell plays something completely different, it's more about the atmosphere than the violent aspects of their music.

Last.fm is having trouble distingiushing between the black metal band, Dodecahedron, and the dreampop band, Dodecahedron. This is unfortunate for both sets of fans, I suspect.

Of course heavily inspired by DsO but better songwriting than the last DsO releases. Some Meshuggah influences here and there as well (the second half of View From Hverfell II (Inside Omnipotent Chaos) ). Intense drumming. If they refine their sound in their next release they won't be regarded as a DsO copycat (not that I'd care and not that this claim would be true anyway).
