FEEËRIEËN: FOR CONNOISSEURS & OUTDOOR COCOONERS.

Welcome to this new sparkling edition of the Feeërieën. As ever, a customized menu for musical connoisseurs & outdoor cocooners. Both the recipe and the location for this refined festival remain the same in ’11.

Even so, this 8th edition is looking more international than ever. Scandinavia is well represented with talent from Denmark (Murder), Norway (Deaf Center) and Finland (Vladislav Delay Quartet). But we also strengthen the bonds with the other side of the Atlantic. Just think Timber Timbre (Canada) and Awesome Tapes From Africa (Brooklyn, New York, US) who will come shine on the bandstand in the Warande Park. We'll also be making use of the Eurotunnel, with visitors like Raime, Demdike Stare and Hannah peel. Aside from France (Imany), Belgium is of course also represented, with Artist In Residence Sarah Ferri and also Birds That Change Colour.

Striking: just about half of the bands/artists performing do so for the first time on Belgian soil. Think Awesome Tapes From Africa (or: Brian Shimkovitz) who has made a profession from his out-of-hand hobby (collecting cassettes of African music). Vladislav Delay's jazz/electronica project – that just debuted on the Honest Jon's label of Damon Albarn from Blur – also lands in Belgium for the first time. We're also eagerly awaiting the Belgian debut of Psychologist, who is occasionally referred to as the new James Blake. ‘Post dubsteppers’ Raime and Demdike Stare also get their first taste of a Belgian audience.

To conclude, we've made it a little easier for you and there's a musical theme to each evening's programme. On the opening evening with Deaf Center and Vladislav Delay Quartet we opt for Scandinavian electronica with a good portion of jazz and classical. Tuesday 23/8 focuses on folk noir with Murder and Timber Timbre. Wednesday it's the turn of folky songwritership with discovery Hannah Peel and debutantes Birds That Change Colour. Thursday 24/8 focuses on worldly music with Awesome Tapes From Africa, discovery Imany and our very own Sarah Ferri. Then the final evening is entirely dedicated to exciting developments within the post dubstep genre.

Does the programme look a little unknown at first glance? That was unintentionally just what we were aiming for. You should know that Grizzly Bear (’06) was once a guest. That Jef Neve (’05) first appeared outside of jazz circles at the Feeërieën. That The Bony King Of Nowhere (’07) played here even before his debut was released and that Ólöf Arnalds already charmed us in ’08, before suddenly presenting a duet with Björk late last year.

So you have been informed. But mainly you are more than welcome to come and enjoy.
