Biography
~ism is Mark Flanagan, a one man writer/producer/creator from Glasgow who has been making tunes now, on and off, for nearly a decade. After a career as a DJ in Paisley and Glasgow's fashionable West End he applied himself instead to the production of his own music.
His early works "Audiocracy", "It's Over (Never Forget)" and the infamous "Warp Dog" were gathered together on Ghetto Modem (2002) and show a man coming to terms with his talent, his equipment and the challenge of making coherent, well produced musical pieces.
Further polishing produced Evident Side FX EP (2003). His first real EP is brimming with musical energy. Highlights include "F*ck Politique" and "The Human Theory" both hinting of future direction.
His Surface Life EP (2004) which followed a year or so later was an entirely different animal. Much more complete in both it's content and production, it rewards the listener with a musical journey and at times a glimpse deep within the artist. One might say that ~ism has grown up, metaphorically speaking of course. Highlights include "In10siv Cares" and the haunting "Bathyspheres".
Other tracks of note include "Acid Pharm" and the hard to find "Mint Silk Mix" of "Bathyspheres".
Since "Surface Life", ~ism has fallen rather silent with Mark concentrating instead on his latest project, "Rubens" a collaboration with Ayrshire producer Gordon MacDermid.
