Biography
‘ten-speed music’ is the moniker singer/songwriter/etc. Isaac Pierce records/arranges, performs, and collaborates under. The 2012 EP as well as 2016’s Soft Rush of Days have gathered steadfast listeners of ten-speed music. Pierce and collaborators have been included in curated NW festivals such as Treefort, Timber, Doe Bay, and the Subdued Stringband Jamboree.
‘There is a certain wistful howl that runs through the work of this Midwestern writer, fully committed to connecting muse and craft.’
-Robert Sarazin Blake, Subdued String Band Jamboree
‘Dark. Beautiful. Indelible. Soothing until haunting…picturesque. In the vein of Adam Green, J. Tillman, Zach Condon.’
-Global Texas Chronicle, Walter Price
’10 Portland bands to watch at Treefort Fest: Pierce’s 2012 release “Ten-Speed Music” is as raw and real as an open vein, a sparse collection of slow folk designed to be as aching as possible. Pierce is a minimal but masterful arranger: you’ll think you’ve already been moved to tears, but that’s when the harmony comes in.’
-Oregonian, David Greenwald
‘Sincere folk music that’s neither pretentious nor cheesy. Think stripped-down Songs: Ohio or Sun Kil Moon.’
-Joshua James Amberso, former music writer for Portland Mercury
‘Isaac Pierce crafts songs…that meander and drift, thoughtfully probing before landing perfectly where they need to be.’
-Fuel/Friends, Heather Browne Powell
