Biography

There are two artists recording under the name Marfa Lights.

Marfa Lights US:
Los Angeles based Marfa Lights was an instrumental post-rock band formed in late 2004 / early 2005. The revolving lineup recorded two EP's before going on indefinite hiatus in late 2006.

EP I features David Gullander on bass and keyboards, Kimble McCann on Guitar, Scott Pellet on Guitar, and Jay Trautman on drums, trumpet, and computer processing. The EP was recorded by Daniel Heyworth of Bad Dudes.

EP II features Kimble McCann on guitar and bass, Scott Pellet on guitar, drums, and bass, Jay Trautman on guitar, bass, and trumpet, and Rian Turner on drums and guitar. The EP was recorded by Jay Trautman.

Jay and Rian are currently playing in On and Off Superfast, Kimble and Scott are recording as a yet-unnamed duo, and David is pursuing composition at Cal Arts.

Marfa Lights UK:
What do you get when you mix the singer of That Petrol Emotion with the guitarist from Hammerbox? Hook-laden power pop with soaring guitar noise, pretty much what you'd expect.

Marfa Lights started off in 1995 when Steve Mack (TPE) moved back from Seattle to start writing with Harris Thurmond (Hammerbox, Orbiter, Kingsley). Marcus Pina from Peace, Love and Guitars joined on bass duties, along with a host of drummers over the years, Dov Friedman (currently of Broken Fingers) playing on the CD, and Rob Dent taking over touring duties.

Marfa Lights were known as Anodyne in the USA, but had to release their album in the UK under the Marfa Lights moniker due to a pre-existing UK-based Anodyne.

They have a site which hasn't been updated in ages but still has some pertinent info (including a streaming version of their LP) at http://smacktastic.tv/anodyne
