Is it up to a young guy from Denmark to put a musical exclamation mark behind this year’s summer?
Well, the underlying coolness of LARS WALLEM and his debut single “Purple Balloon” is gonna hit the airwaves and send pop, rock and soul to new heights.
Lars hails from the Danish city of Aalborg, and like its famous liquor factories, Lars intends to let his own spirits flow and conquer the world with his own blend of intoxicating lyrics and melodies.
Flashback: a little boy strumming on his new electric guitar (the battered old acoustic from years of practise lies in the corner), singing into a make-shift microphone he simply lets the music carry him away. After a while, people around him begin to realize that his music could reach out much further than the confinements of his bedroom walls . A mixture of dreams, talent and a focused musical goal has turned him into what he is today. A gifted artist and musician who has found his voice and who is perfectly comfortable playing the piano, guitar or even harmonica. His career started in grunge bands on the local Aalborg pup scene, where more than once he was paid in beer rather than in cash. All in all these experiences paid a big a part in his development as an artist, but he soon felt too restricted and began to search for a place where he could expand further his song writing and musical ability.
Next stop: Hamburg.
Through a mutual friend Lars was introduced to producer/songwriter Stephan Gade from the Hamburg music scene. This was a truly magical moment and marked a real turning point in Lars’ career. It wasn’t long before they were locked together in a studio, sifting through the song notepad from Lars bouncing ideas off each other… and not leaving a stone unturned in the search for musical satisfaction. This coming together from two different worlds proved to be the perfect catalyst of Stephan´s experience and Lars’ dynamic energy. The result is wonderful, uplifting pop melodies. One of which is the debut single “Purple Balloon”. A real catchy hook line that could easily be this summers hit. The music manages to capture the feeling of “a first date”, “enjoying an ice cream on the beach” or “driving a cabriolet in the sunshine” … Three minutes that make you forget all your troubles.
The CD also holds a special surprise for us all, that being the b-side “Dont let me fall”. Not only is it a declaration of love to the unknown species of women, but it’s also a soulful attempt to decipher the universal conflict between HIM and HER. Lars explains in his version of the perfect dilemma. Through his songs and his captivating voice, Lars Wallem really has something to offer this world. Far away from casting hypes and ring tone overdose this musician puts honesty before everything. “I couldn’t get anything done if I wouldn’t believe in it one hundred percent. I never want to be associated with half-heartedness” admits Lars.
So look out for the upcoming showcases and debut album from Lars Wallem. The smart guy from Denmark has a live performance full of energy and surprises. If it’s the big orchestra production or the intimate piano-vocal (as heard on the singles’ bonus track) Lars satisfies his audience with his Viking charisma and musical expertise.
It’s been an exciting, sometimes bumpy, ride on the road to success. But one thing’s for sure… this guy has paid his dues… honestly.
