Biography

One guitar, one voice, one bass, one drummer. The essential tools. These are what allow Badlands Trio to craft songs that are at their core instrumentation, even as they glide through the sounds of Rock, Americana, Jazz, and Country.

In early 2007, three musicians got together for a jam session. The idea was to get together once, run a few songs, and then decide what other instruments to add to the mix. After a single session, however, they realized that they had stumbled upon something big: the stripped down purity of a trio. The trio would allow them to focus on the essential tools of the art while minimizing the convolution of politics, egos, and sound that often arise in larger bands. Badlands Trio was born, and with it came a musical intimacy none of the members had experienced before.

Badlands Trio is Josh Worden on guitar and voice, Michael Valenzano on bass, and Peter Miles on drums. Working together, the three collectively shape their music. Miles says, "We put the songs on a table and sculpt them like clay. We shape them, step back, and shape them again." The resulting songs are stripped to their bare bones, reflective, exposed, and raw.
