Biography
Walker Diver is an Utrecht-based powerpop band from The Netherlands, fronted by singer, guitarist and songwriter, Stefan 't Hooft.
The band first came into being as a Stefan ’t Hooft solo project, after he had left the successful noise pop band Mitch in 2002. After releasing a solo EP he assembled a band featuring lead guitarist Mathijs Peeters (Sandsusky, Gasoline Bothers, Reiger), with whom he recorded début album, White Knuckle Ride (2004). The album was released to critical acclaim and a successful national tour ensued.
In the period of 2004-2008 the band had several changes in line-up, Stefan and drummer Jelmer de Haas being the only remaining members. In 2007 the second album Junior Blues was released, a record that was made with various guest musicians. In order to promote the record, a live band was assembled, with again Mathijs Peeters on lead guitar and on bass Rinse Visser, (now known for Alexei Lalas, whose record A Better Version Of You Stefan wrote the lyrics for). However, this line up only lasted one tour.
Once again, Walker Diver got reduced to a solo project. Stefan released a 7” EP (the Black Flag tribute Nervous Breakdown) and a digitally released cover-album, but the itch to turn Walker Diver into a real band remained. In 2016, drummer Jelmer de Haas is still on board and youngsters Yassir Oostrom (Lead guitar, vocals) and Evert Smit (bass) join to complete the definitive line up. That year, the band starts working on Mk III (erroneously listed on Spotify as Mkiii): a record that shuts doors and opens new ones with great expectation.
