Trey Gruber was the young frontman of Chicago, IL, United States-based rockband, Parent. Aged only 26, he passed away in September 2017 after a heroin overdose. Though Gruber had already attracted the interest of the Secretly Canadian record label, Parent had officially released only one song when Gruber died: the glum 'I Tried', in July 2017.
