This music was composed by Tom Green (aka Another Fine Day, UK ambient artist and nothing to do with the Canadian comic) due to a commission from the Royal Infirmary, Bristol, for 'very quiet music' to be played in the ancillary areas of a new MRI scanner installed in 2002. Tom found that the three 20 min pieces also happened to be perfect for those friends who enjoyed meditation and yoga, or who just wanted something completely - and I mean completely - chilled to listen to.
This isn't really 'new age' music though - there are definitely hints of Brian Eno's works from the mid 1970s and the drones of La Monte Young, more than the pan pipes of new age music. A bit like the most chilled bits of his alter ego, Another Fine Day, but even slower, with absolutely no drums. Not one… Tom has said that 'this music is working if you are asleep before the CD finishes- then my job is done' So don't expect to leap up and dance - just float away to deeply blissed out sounds and superb textures.
