Alto saxophonist Tim Berne's seven piece ensemble Caos Totale features an extended ensemble of Berne with Herb Robertson, Mark Dresser, Steve Swell, Bobby Previte, Marc Ducret and Django Bates.
The Caos Totale recordings reveal a mature and self-assured Berne with an instantly identifiable saxophone style and a compositional approach moving toward extended-form pieces of extraordinary scope.
Downtown New York avant garde jazz . There are moments of pure noise–sometimes invograting, sometimes aggravating, occasionally a little of both–alongside those that seem tightly composed. Mediating these extremes are some interesting improvisational discussions between the various players.
