Touring used to be about supporting a record. The Handsome Charlies see the writing on the wall: perform a spectacular show or drown in the sea of MP3 madness. Touting accents, finespun looks, and high-powered stage presence the Charlies have blitzed their way into the collective heart of Austin, TX with an infectious blend of uber-pop sensibility (Pulp), shrewd songwriting (Ween), and post-millenium sound (Radiohead).
The Handsome Charlies hail from Sydney, Australia, where live rock typically ends with dance-floor mayhem, sweat, and fist fights. They recently relocated to fertile Austin, TX
Within 8 weeks they sold out of 500 copies of initial release EP Off The Cuff and are currently in the final stages of their eagerly awaited first full length.
Gentlemen Never Tell offers 12 tracks of knotty pop/rock melody, ranging from sardonic stomps to thrilling anthems. Low on the schmultz but high on the hook best summarizes this release. With a history in Oz Rock, classical conducting and NYC jazz, the Charlies are influenced by an expanding and uncommon body of music. These disparate stimuli combined with personal, yet unassuming lyrics mark The Handsome Charlies distinctive sound.
