New 12 CD boxset released by Cherry Red Records, compiles the early years of the band including previously unreleased liveperformances. (a couple of very rare tunes!!): https://www.cherryred.co.uk/product/the-fall-the-1970s-12cd-box-set/

I feel obliged to explain my last entry concerning Marcel Duchamp and The Fall. What I meant was to call atention to the dadaist tendencies of the band. With all its acid, witty lyrics that may seem to be nothing but gibberish to some and highly erratic and idiosyncratic musical achievements, The Fall seem to incorporate and disseminate Dada into the spectrum of music as a whole. Just as Duchamp did with Art in the beginning of the XX, which was, acts of total destruction towards art as it was then conceived, The Fall manages to do the same: it takes musical elements and dissect it, poke at it, take it out of context, and all and all, destroy it. The goal of The Fall was to kill music as per se, and in the process, they made one of the most unique, bizarre, wretched, engaging, putrid and dada music and art. Innovation through destruction. Don't believe me? Look at their album covers! They're making fun of the music industry, themselves, me and you too!

The design of the albums was more because MES liked the aesthetic of cheap design and local cash-and-carry signs. It's more of an adoption of working-class aesthetics than a parody of them.

Favourite Fall album is Middle Class Revolt. Not sure many will agree with that. What's your favourite?

That's a really interesting pick, I think I'd go with a boring option in one of their 80s albums like Grotesque but The Infotainment Scan is a close second, that's right up there with the best of their 80s work for me.

Late response, but I'd have to go with The Wonderful and Frightening World of The Fall. I'm probably biased by the fact that it was the first Fall album I heard, but I love it more than any other of their albums. Also, I should give MCR another listen. I found it pretty underwhelming on first listen and never gave it a second chance...

A group of whom John Peel famously said ... you might want a different quote, but it's always the same quote — Paul Hanley

More than anything else, this was the comment that spurred me on to give The Fall a listen, so thank you for that.

I think they mean because so many artists have been in The Fall. They are comparing it to the Kevin Bacon rule where no actor is more than six degrees away from him: https://oracleofbacon.org/

I've been listening for less than 180 days and I'm pretty much working through their gigantic discog because literally everything is great (about a quarter is god-tier, half amazing and the rest still good). I started with Live at the Witch Trials but I reckon you should start like this; The Frenz Experiment --> Real new fall LP --> Bend Sinister ––> This Nation's Saving Grace ––> just see whatever you liked the most and go in that vein (check RYM embolden albums). Remember they're one of a kind so don't expect to be like oh yeah this sounds like xyz. Good luck ;)

The Cure.

Сейчас бы знать, что за "Greatest Hits" The Cure и не знать, что за The Fall.

Glad you've realized how much greatness in their discography there is to enjoy. I feel bad for people who think there's nothing worthwhile beyond Bend Sinister or even This Nation's Saving Grace, which seems to be a shockingly high number.
