Biography
A group of five individuals with four letter names bound by creativity, camaraderie, and a passion for music: The City Never Sleeps consists of vocalist John Glenn (like the astronaut!), Erik Flora (guitar/vocals), Curt Mulick (drums), Kyle Hatch (guitar), and Dave Parker (bass). As “Band of the Week” in June 2009, GuerillaMagazine.com gushed, “The City Never Sleeps is a refreshingly hard to categorize rock outfit from … unsigned, relatively new on the music scene, but undeniably catchy.”
Originating from areas of the Hudson Valley and upstate New York, The City Never Sleeps relocated to the Capital Region last summer. Over the past few months, TCNS hasn't stopped writing and demoing new music. A true do-it-yourself band, they have been regularly releasing new tracks recorded in their apartment every couple of weeks. Recently, they have played with bands such as: Weerd Science, Mirk, Athletics, Eytan and the Embassy; they have also shared the stage with: Paramore, Saosin, Acceptance, Owen, My American Heart, and Halifax.
The band originally formed as “Fourfit” in 2004 with long time friends Curt, Erik and John who went to Middletown High School together. Starting in Curt's Parent's basement, the band added a friend on bass and ventured from the music-cave to play shows locally after school and weekends at local events and venues all over the region. The band continued to play shows and write songs together throughout college and in 2008 they changed the name to "The City Never Sleeps". Shortly after recording their first studio EP, the bassist left the band to pursue a career in law enforcement.
Kyle, a classically trained guitarist and friend of Curt’s, was asked by the group to fill in on bass. After writing a couple songs together, the group insisted Kyle join the band as a guitarist, so John dropped rhythm guitar to focus primarily on vocals. New to the Albany area himself, Dave happened to catch an acoustic set by John, Kyle and Erik at a local open mic; blown away by their performance, Dave subsequently approached the two with interest of collaborating and possibly filling in on bass. Dave Parker brought to the band his experiences from touring internationally with Coheed and Cambria and working as a producer and live performer with Weerd Science. The band is excited to continue working with this line up in 2011 and beyond (unless the world ends in 2012).
