Tenin Baba Ndanani is an up-and-coming Singer/Songwriter-Actress. At 22 years old this rising star has drawn a nationwide audience of over 50,000, as an onstage powerhouse performing in Broadway hits “Smokey Joe’s Café” (as BJ), “Ragtime” (as Sarah’s Friend), “Aida” (Nehebka), and “The Wiz” (Evillene). NOW, Tenin is adding the final touches to her debut album which has drawn early international interest. Slated for a June 2010 release, it shines with original songs that deliver empowering messages, while boasting a fusion R&B, Gospel, pop, hip hop, country and musical theatre sound. As a songwriter Tenin has penned lyrics for soloist Cheri Dennis and pop group Danity Kane with her producer Matthew “Woody” Irby (Phantom Boyz).
Born in Harlem, NY, Tenin has been vying for the spotlight since she sang her first solo at age 7 in church, not long after her family relocated to Plainfield, NJ. The daughter of a professional Gospel singer/musician mother, Tenin is a self-proclaimed “music mutt” who cut her teeth in the church choir and performing professionally (since 11yrs. old) in musical theatre. Her main goal is to please God and to encourage people to live their best lives. After seeing Tenin, entertainment writer C.W. Walker, wrote, “Strongest of all is Ndanani who has a belter’s voice that can blow the house down, and she uses it for both humor and poignant effect.”
Making the leap from stage to screen Tenin is in active production on her television premiere, a reality series titled TeninWorld. It will chronicle her triumphs and struggles to keep her faith connection and positive self-image, while trying to break into the music and movie business in a major way!
In pursuing her dream, Tenin has not failed to foster her passion for motivating and inspiring youth. In The Miss-Adventures of a Fabulous Phat Girl!, her one-woman show, Tenin tours middle schools and high schools nationwide sharing important life lessons and encouraging students with humorous anecdotes, fun original music, and “big sister” style real talk.
