Biography
When Fabio Bernardi (guitars) and Tobias Sommer (drums) met the first time in a bus to Langenthal, they never expected that their musical views would correlate in a way to found a new kind of rock band. Fast they found good musicians who went to the same high school and already had band experience (Peter Inversini, guitars; Olivier Zurkirchen, keys; Silas Bitterli, vocals; Julian Maurhofer, bass). It was important that all the members knew each other, so they would become a family. In 2004, Oblivion was founded. Because every single band member is very ambitions, they didn’t start with covering other songs, they already wrote their own musical material. There were similarities to the sound of Toto and other prog rock bands. Soon the song material became louder and heavier, but didn’t loose the technical element. They experimented with odd metres and wild licks. But after some time (2005-2006) they saw that the simple stuff was the target they were aiming at.
In 2005 they made third place at an all-music-band-contest in Berne - behind two funk bands. And in 2006 Oblivion had it’s first concert season. There were very good reactions from the audition and the press. But still, Oblivion didn’t find it’s musical way. In time, the band members began to listen to the same sound and go to the same concerts. End of 2006 it was decided to found a new band, called “Straitjacket Inc”. There were the same members, but a slightly different sound. Still today their sound gets more powerful with every new song. The promotion cd that will be released end of june is expected to be a springboard to new gigs in other locations and band contests. With an average age of 20 years, they don’t have much to lose. So they use their full capacity to get a good reputation in Switzerland as a newcomer band.
