"Mr. Writer" is the third track on the album Just Enough Education to Perform. Kelly Jones, the vocalist, started writing it around the same time as "I Stopped to Fill My Car Up. " He created the verse chords and the line, "Mr. Writer, why don't you tell it like it is," but paused for months. While in Europe, he practiced with Tony Kirkham's keyboard.
