Biography
Stepladder has been the long time recording project of Boston art director / designer and founder of Alphabet Arm Design: Aaron Belyea. Not satisfied with individual songs appearing on various compilations he set out to record an album proper. After having a rotating cast of band members including Fred Eltringham (Gigolo Aunts, Ben Kweller, The Wallflowers) and Drew Parsons (Tracy Bonham, American Hi-Fi) Aaron searched for a more solidified (and less busy) rhythm section and rehearsed with drummer Chris Burns and bassist Bill Fallon (The New You) to flush out the latest batch of songs Aaron had written. Once basics were completed he instilled the skilled services of Jed Parish (The Gravel Pit, Jedediah Parish and the Mother Tongues) to play assorted keyboards. Famed producer Mike Denneen (Aimme Mann, Letters to Cleo, Fountains of Wayne) also lent a stellar hand in the keyboard department gracing three of the tracks. Bassist Ed Valauskas not only played bass on a select track but sang back up vocals on another two. And lastly but certaintly not least Aaron was fortunate enough to have the lovely and talented Kay Hanley join him and sing on the 'duet' Stubborn in Spanish. Nice Guys Finish was recorded and mixed by Ted Paduck at Mixed One Studios.
