Biography
1 - Spacelab was a pioneering Swedish electronic, synth, and ambient group active from 1985 to 1993, best known today for launching the careers of its two stepbrother members: Peter Folkesson (now Peter Jubel) and Stefan Ahnhem.
The band was formed in Sweden during the mid-1980s synth-wave movement.
They named themselves after the track "Spacelab" from Kraftwerk's iconic 1978 album Die Mensch-Maschine.
Spacelab started with a heavily sci-fi, space-ambient, and early synth-pop sound directly inspired by German electronic pioneers. Over time, their style evolved to incorporate faster rhythms, heavily leaning into the emerging techno and rave music scene of the early 1990s.
They released several underground electronic records, culminating in their self-titled studio album, Spacelab, released in 1993 featuring tracks like "Touch Down", "Blue Planet", and "An Ocean of Dreams". The group disbanded shortly after the album's release to pursue different professional paths.
Jubel completely transitioned from creating music to building the tools that make it. He became a highly respected Digital Signal Processing (DSP) engineer and co-founded Propellerhead Software (now known as Reason Studios). He is one of the lead software architects behind Reason, a legendary digital audio workstation used by millions of musicians worldwide, as well as the pioneering software synthesizer ReBirth RB-338.
Ahnhem left the music industry to become a world-renowned, bestselling Swedish crime fiction author and screenwriter. He spent decades writing for popular Nordic noir television series, including the famous Wallander adaptations. As a novelist, he is celebrated globally for his gripping Fabian Risk thriller series, which begins with the hit book Vedergällning (Victim Without a Face).
2 - Spacelab was an Italian dance act, that was arranged by Claudio Zennaro, Fulvio Zafret, Sergio Portaluri, and M. Pinosa. They recorded the hit "Kastigo" in 1993. Recorded an mixed at "Palace Recording Studios".
