TRANSNATION is the speculated fan-title for SOPHIE's cancelled second studio album, based on an unreleased song of the same name, for which a music video had been filmed prior to SOPHIE's untimely death. There is no confirmed title or track listing, although there were several alleged listings spread around industry emails and fan communities. Some of the songs proposed for inclusion were posthumously released on 2024's SOPHIE.
In a 2020 interview, SOPHIE said that the COVID-19 pandemic had made her reconsider the direction of her second album, leading many to believe the project, at least in its current state, would be scrapped; “Whatever is put out into the world now needs to somehow be reactive to and learn from this situation,” she said. “I feel some kind of shift of consciousness is occurring, whether that’s me coming into this more reflective place or whatever else it is, and I’m curious to know how that might manifest itself musically.”
