'Sontaag' is the eponymous debut album by the London and New York-based Sontaag, consisting of Ian Fortnam (voice, lyrics) and Richard Sontaag (instruments, composition).
The album was co-produced and mixed by British producer Youth, and released on the Esoteric/Cherry Red label on April 28, 2014.

The duo always refer to the album as an example of "sonic cinema", as it replicates the experience of watching a movie by using music and narration. The story tells of a planet powered by sonic energy from a giant orbiting energy source, the Great Harmodulator.
Sontaag is almost one hour of music, which ranges from ambient to spacerock,

The album was recorded in New York City and mixed in London.

UK tabloid the Daily Mirror called 'Sontaag' "Progtastic!", and gave it four stars out of five in a review.
Classic Rock magazine described 'Sontaag' as "the year's most courageous album" in an article.
Prog Magazine described the duo as "Prog's own Dr Who," referring to the legendary UK television science fiction character.

Ian has cited Greg Milner's book Perfecting Sound Forever, and Anthony Burgess' A Clockwork Orange as his inspiration for the 'Sontaag' story.

Richard has said he was inspired to compose 'Sontaag' by hearing Buzz Aldrin give a lecture on the benefits of manned space exploration, and by watching Andrei Tarkovsky's film Solaris.

The CD version comes with a 16-page art and photography booklet designed by Julie Cunnah.

Milo Venter guests on drums on the album, and New York-based singer Amanda Cross guests on female vocals.

The mix and mastering were engineered by Eddie Banda and Michael Rendell.
Shuta Shinoda engineered the vocal recording.
