Soltype began making music in 1998 with his father's old JVC synthesizer, recording a few songs on cassette tapes before moving on to a computer a few years later. His early material was mosty simple dance-oriented music relying heavily on sampled loops, but over the years he developed a more experimental sound with influences from artists such as Depeche Mode, Aphex Twin and The Knife.
