Biography
Sleep Clinic is the work of Los Angeles based artist Jeff Swearegin.
Having been involved in music and music recording from a young age,
Swearengin has developed visual and audio installations for museums and galleries,
been co-promoter for Experimental Music productions and events, and has had involvement with many different projects over the years. Sleep Clinic's haunting chords are overlayed with
dissonant melodies, pulsing waves, and digital noise that slowly and abruptly move in and out of the mix. Reminiscent of music by bands such as Skinny Puppy, Future Sound of London, and COIL, the work evokes a sense of being alone, but not necessarily lonely. The synthetic sounds seem to be reaching out via a psychic frequency that is isolated deep within the mind. Distorted, stretched, and twisted voices are edited into frightening fragments that tantalize morbid curiosity with talk of murder, medicine, and abduction. This soundtrack of the psyche effectively uses hypnotic tempo and an unsettling assortment of hums, blips, pops and beats to lull the spectator into Swearengin's beautiful, bad dream.
