Biography
Slasher Mary is a five-piece all-female band from Hertfordshire. Having met at school, they split off in late 2006 to go to different universities but reform whenever they can. The setup consists of lead vocals (Zoe Bidgood), guitar and backing vocals (Sarah Boughton), bass (Daisy Williams), drums (Jessica Hart) and keys and saxophone (both Becca Chapman).
Local venues played include The Horn, St Albans; Park Hall, Harpenden as well as local pub The Inn on the Green; The Green Room, Welwyn; The Well, Luton and Club 85, Hitchin.
Their 2006 release, Rockeby Venus, has 4 self-written tracks and a live version of one of them. The album name is a pun on a painting (The 'Rokeby' Venus) which was once vandalised by Suffragette Mary 'Slasher' Richardson, from whom the band take their name.
Their style is heavily influenced by blues, as guitarist Sarah Boughton studies jazz at Birmingham Conservatoire, while keywords used to describe them often mention rock and funk.
Their cover versions also include The Rolling Stones, Blondie and Placebo.
