The video of his song "Baraye…" (Persian: برای, For…; Because of…) in which he used protest tweets with the hashtag #MashaAmini the Kurdish woman who was killed by police in Tehran 16 September 2022.
Shervin posted his song on Instagram on 29 September and was seen more than 40 million times in less than two days. He was forced to delete the song due to the pressure of government officials.
The main theme of the song is support of women with the slogan "Women, Life, Freedom". This is a popular political Kurdish slogan used in the Kurdish independence movement in the 2000s.
Mahsa Amini was born into a Kurdish family in Saqqez, Kurdistan province in 2000. When visiting her brother in Tehran, Masha was arrested 13 September 2022 after allegedly breaching modesty rules. She died in police custody 16 September.
The slogan was chanted in her funeral in Saqqez, and was then heard in the initial protests over her death in Sanandaj, and 21 September students in Tehran chanted the slogan. The female protesters burned their hijabs as it symbolizes the systematic oppression women in Iran have been under since Ayatollah Khomeini seized power in 1979.
