Biography
Sékou Bah started to play the guitar in his hometown of Bandiagara on Mali’s Dogon plateau and at 11 was invited to join Bandiagara’s orchestra, Nangabanou Jazz. When he was 18 he left school to study music in Guinée followed by Senegal and Gambia. In 2003, at the age of 21, he returned to Mali to join the national orchestra of Mali where he came to the attention of Salif Keita who he accompanied as guitarist and bassist for 3 years. During that time he also joined Oumou Sangaré, as bassist and then as her musical director. He has played on national and international stages at some of the largest festivals in the world. Since 2014 Bah has been bassist with the great Malian singer, Fatoumata Diawara.
