Notes on Paper was self released in 2007 as a very limited pressing and was picked up and re-released by Gypsypop Records in 2009.
The album Notes on Paper by Secret Codes is a sketch book. The first half of the album was recorded on a four track in David's bedroom using an old Yamaha RX7 drum machine, a synthesizer, and a guitar. With very limited resources he found a way to make these songs his own and created an artistic vision that is really unique and playful. These songs sound fairly polished for their lo-finess.
The last half of the album is mainly guitar compositions. These tracks are all instrumental and are complex and unique compositions.
There are many Asian influences throughout this album mixed with moments of Post-Rock, Math Rock, and some early 90's Merge Records era indie rock.
The songs Logical Collapse and Nunnamaker will give you a sneak peak into where the artist is heading.
