The group is quite avant-garde and plays great music! My favorite tracks are "American Babylon", "Behold A Pale Horse", "The Mask", "Ludicrous Smiles" and "The Whore Of Babylon". I read the description. Surprisingly, vocalist Eric Clayton never wanted to be considered a goth icon.

The more I listen to it, I am convinced that Legend Part I ranks up there with their first two albums. On some days I think it's actually better than Saviour Machine II. The atmosphere is absolutely stellar.

A new album would be phenomenal. Unfortunately, the band doesn't have the greatest track record in that regard. I'll believe it when I am listening to the new album :)

The first two albums are legendary, especially the debut. It's quite sad that they're so criminally underrated.

This band is criminally underrated. "Son of the Rain" is one of the best metal songs of all-time.

As far as originality/talent go I haven't heard a Christian band even half as good as Saviour Machine, many of the Christian Metal bands of the 80s/90s weren't very original. Although not a Christian myself SM are one of my favorite progressive metal bands, Eric and his bro Jeff are geniuses!

Man, just really listening to the song [url=http://www.last.fm/music/David+Bowie/_/Saviour+Machine+(1999+Digital+Remaster)]Saviour Machine[/url]. You can hear how Eric mimicked this style a bit, especially in the beginning.

Haha I like Legend Part II a lot more now...it has a different atmosphere, one that takes getting used to, but just as much a masterpiece as any of the others.

Agreed. Don't think there are many other Christian artists that went as far as they did with it. Similar artists should be more secular artists.

I'm not a Christian, but damn... Their music is amazing. Eric's voice blew my mind.

@ACanonne I think that "Legend Part II" is my least favorite so far, the mixing on that one was different and I didn't like the songs as much. They seemed to be trying to do too much all at once; sometimes simplicity is better. But "Legend III:I" was an excellent return to form and I can't wait for the official release of "Legend III:II"

Similar artists would be bands like [artist]the mission uk[/artist] and [artist]sisters of mercy[/artist]

Did they get the name of their band from Bowie's mention of 'Savior Machine' in one of his songs?

Yes, it's based on listeners. Really, only two of the similar artists would even begin to sound like Saviour Machine (Saviour Machine has such a distinct sound). I would say that last.fm should change it to tags, but I've seen a lot of terrible tagging over the years. So I'm not sure what the best system would be...

aren't the similar artists listed there based on the listeners, not tags? since people who listen to saviour machine tend to listen to other christian bands too (even those that are nothing like SM), that's the reason for all of those bands up there that aren't really similar except for the lyrical theme. atleast that's how i thought last.fm worked...

@OceanSoul - That is because people will not stop using the stupid "Christian" tag. I completely agree, most of the "similar" bands here have absolutely nothing in common musically. Just goes to show how useless content-based tags are on last.fm!

Try the band Amos from Brazil. They have some Gothic influences, although a lot different from SM.
